I am using the latest OS and this has happened to me over a few different OS so I guess it's not OS-related. The problem is that every time my battery reaches somewhere below 30% (maybe 28% or 26% etc.), there is a suddenly sharp drop in battery life and all of a sudden I'd only have like 8% left. This makes my effective battery life lower than it should be. Anyone else having this problem and whether there is a way to resolve it?

Same happened to my 8520, and to my 9800, assume it's normal.

There are a few threads regarding the same issue. Currently dealing w/ the same thing. Intense drop from 40% to 5-8% in a second. I thought it was a battery issue? Not quite sure. Also might be a battery leak issue w/ the OS. Whatever it is, I am constantly plugging it into the charger. Using torch 9800, current OS.

My torch does the same thing.. good to know I'm not the only one.

I have found that the radio used to turned off at around 6% automatically, After the battery % started doing the rapid drop I can still make calls at 1%.

I'm not sure if its an OS (6.0.0.723) issue or a hardware reading or battery reporting issue. I might have to swap/borrow a battery from one of my coworkers and see I get the same issues.

Well, you need to verify what apps are running in the background. Make sure you properly close out of apps not needed, like GPS.

How old are your batteries (only one stated this). Are any of you running replacement batteries you bought off an auction site?

I've had my 9800 1 1/2 years with the original battery. I'm on .706 and don't have this big drop off.

WHEW! thought it was just me.

    9800/ 1 year old / original battery / Current official ATT OS 6.0 bundle 2647 / .223

Instant drop from that 30% range to SCARY red batt meter, then even when plugged in immediately cannot re-charge fast enough to avoid radio shut down when in continued use.

Waiting to get interim 9900 to tide me over till BB10, will get back up battery or new Seidio 3000mA for times when away from juice but need heavy Bridge/Hotspot/Tether use with PlayBook and laptop.

I find this happens quite a lot, I get a big drop from 30% to 8% and then I can leave the phone running (until it finally runs out of juice) for a good 6-8 hours after that so long as I do not make calls or use 3G to heavily.

The battery indicator is clearly all over the shop.

I have had my 9800 for just over a year and whilst it does the job, the 9900 I use for work, is far more efficient.

my 9810 had the same issue. I swapped out the FS-1 battery from my old 9800 and now I have 0 issues. I believe I had a defective battery in the 9810
