I've noticed that the battery life on this thing is horrible. I mean after being fully charged, even an hour after removing from the charger and minimal usage the battery drops noticeably. It can't make it through an 8 hour work day with medium usage before dropping down to 30%. I have no apps open than the usual native ones. I'm considering going back to my 9700. How is everyone elses battery life?

What is your screen brightness at? I use mine moderately, approximately 3-5 hours of usage combined a day and i get almost 35 hours in one charge. The first few days it wasnt too great but has gotten a lot better. I have no other applications running. When I was having issues I did notice one of my apps was always using the gps.

Check your task switcher to make sure you don't have apps loaded that are hogs. I start my day at 6 am and by 11pm I am usually at 65%. Its better than my 8900 was.

I send and receive approx. 70 emails per day and about 45 minutes of talk time w/ bluetooth. I get about 34 hours on one charge. Some apps I found even when not open it drains the battery pretty bad. I might have gotten lucky with the phone. I am currently running .337.

Comparing battery life from one user to another really cant be done since we all run things differently, Some run apps in the background while others close them all, It's all in perception on how you use the device.

With that being said, Only apps I run at all times are ubertwitter, berryweather, and wallpaper changer. My usage is something like this, send and receive about 60 to 100 mms/sms messages, send 10 or so emails, receive 80 to 100(between 4 email accounts)emails, don't use bbm, make at least 6 to 7 hours worth of calls, and browse the net probably an hour or two. Phone is at 100% screen brightness, wifi and bluetooth are always on, network mode is set to 2g only, and use wifi 70% ish of the time. I take the phone of the dock at around 6:30am and usually put it back on around 10pm, battery drains down to about 20%. I can defiantly make it a whole day with no problem. Moderate use? light use? take it for what it's worth.

    Edit:
Forgot to mention I'm on .337

What's the OP's coverage like? If you don't have good 3G coverage and leave the phone in 3G/2G mode, that will drain your battery fast.

I'm on .337 and it seems just as bad as .246. I have no apps running in the background.

Perhaps you have a defective battery. There is a definite difference between .246 and .337.

Probably a defective battery. The first battery I had would only last about 4-5 hours under moderate usage..but with my new one I can easily get a 12+ hour work day from it with the same usage (light use I get 36+). Seems the general consensus with everyone is at least a full day from it..so if you like the phone try to get a different battery.

My battery life is much improved after moving to .337. I don't know specifics, but I can easily get through the day and I couldn't before the upgrade.

My experience is the same as Racer. I took mine off the charger Saturday morning around 8am, and its almost 10pm Sunday and I have just under half of a charge left. I DID use edge only this weekend, just to see how long I could make it last, but it's not been on the charger in over 36 hours, and I've been facebooking, making phone calls, answering emails etc. all weekend. on .337

I've used every single OS since the beginning and battery life has been consistent on every single one. I have not seen any improvement or weakness from one build to another.

That being said, there are plenty of factors that go into battery drainage. The biggest battery killer is 3G. Unless you absolutely need it, set your phone to 2G only, this will dramatically increase battery life. GPS location services also drains the battery, if you don't need that on, shut it off. Screen brightness and timeout will also help. I have the brightness at 0 and it's still plenty bright enough, timeout at 20 seconds. Also, any apps that update themselves (Google Sync, RSS feeds, social networking apps, weather apps, etc.) will drain battery. If you don't need constant updates, turn them off. I've been able to easily go 2 days on a single charge on every build that's been posted here, none have been any better than any other from my experience.

I might try the update to .337 as I'm still running standard .246

I use the Torch the same as I did the 9700 and the Torch lasts way less than the Bold did. I know it's powering the bigger touchscreen compared to the Bold but then why not design a bigger battery for it compared to the Bold?

Chances are you have an application open and not closed. Pacman and similar games can drain the battery if they are not properly closed.

I have had no issues on my Torch. Actually i find the battery life similar to the 9700 when I had that. Although battery life depends on what applications you are using, how much you use the phone, etc.
