Exclamation Battery issue, or not?

Last night I updated a couple of apps via AppWorld and it asked me to reboot. So I did.

Then it would not boot back up. The red LED came on for a moment, then shut off, and a very, very faint red LED was glowing from beside where the first light normally shows.

I pulled the battery, waited about 15 seconds, and it did the same thing. I did it again, waited even longer (a minute) and it booted fine.

Later, it suddenly just shut down and tried to reboot itself. Right when I closed the slide-out keyboard too. I thought the battery was maybe not charged enough, so I plugged it in using the stock charger which came with it. It gave me an icon on the screen of a battery with a big red X over it. What is this about? I unplugged it, put it back in, and it was fine.

After repeating all these steps a few times, I had it running and decided to leave it charging overnight. In the morning, I found my battery indicator within the OS showing only half full! Later this morning at work, my phone suddenly quit again and tried to reboot itself. This, while plugged into my PC via USB to try and charge it.

I'm seeing a TON of battery related threads, but I'm lost as to which would apply to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(FYI, I have 3 friends w/ Torch 9800s and hope to bother one of them tonight to try their battery and see if that's the issue, but I'd like some peace of mind prior to that point.)

do a complete phone wipe (os and everything) IF: the issue is not resolved after you uninstall those programs that were updated. i have issues with certain apps that are new to me and them having updates. some that constantly run in the background puling/pushing information. was your phone extremely hot during the drainage issue? chances are it is an app that is glitchy. start removing apps one by one. it will be some trial and error testing. start with those you can assume are constantly running on their own or that you have up (have not completely exited out of). it is always best to get rid off apps that are not essential to you. you can always google app issues for your phone and OS.
