Default 9800 yes or no

I'm thinking of getting a used 9800 (currently have an iphone 3gs) so that I can bridge with my playbook. Should I? As usual I see a lot of threads with problem units is it really that bad?

I have the 9800 but if was to get one now (especially if switching from iPhone) would get 9810 !!! It has faster processor, and latest software. If you get the 9800 understand that it is older software and not the "latest and greatest".

Having said that, I love my 9800. Its easy to use (although keyboard is a little cramped for my oversized fingers) and great form factor. I love the full keyboard and touch screen. The phone initially froze and needed to be rebooted regularly, but now it doesn't seem to have that problem ... much. Other than installing an app I can't remember the last time I rebooted due to system freezing.
The browser is fast, the app selection is good and there are some great iphone replication themes available for it too.

As for integration with the PB. Its easy and works great ! No need for native email, contacts, etc with BB Bridge.

I would get the BB Torch 9810. It's significantly faster than the 9800. But then, whatever floats your boat..

While the 9810 is a better phone overall the 9800 remains a fine device. We have one of each in the household and each is much loved by its owner.

Doesn't your PB tether to your iPhone?

If you can get 4G, the 9810 will work much faster when bridging. While the 9810 is a much better device, I was very happy with my 9800 for a year and a half. Even though I love my 9810, I wouldn't be too upset going back to the 9800 (other than losing 4G).

If you want the PB for 3G internet connection, i beleave the iphone can create a wifi hotspot. So then you can connect the PB over wifi to the 3G network.

But you have to pay for that. Bridge is free.

abstain from this terrible device. if you really want to have it then pay no more than $100 (that is without giving 2 years of your life to the phone company).

other than that get the iphone 4s or galaxy nexus.

Sure why not if it's used and the price is right ! I happen to think my 9800 is the best bb that I've ever had....the 9810 of course would be better but depends on how much you are willing to spend

The 9800 isn't the latest/greatest, but it's by no means a terrible phone. Pretty darn nice in fact, you ask me. I'd be surprised if those who condemn it, have ever had or spent time with one.

You should be able to find one at a bargain, compared to the 9810, and for the bridging alone it would be worth it for you.

I use the 9800, 'at the end of the day' it's basically a great and extremely useful phone.

The main thing I want is a faster processor...a la 9810 If you can, get the 9810

iPhone 3 can't tether to the playbook. iPhone 4 can provide a mobile hotspot for the pb. But with OS2 you'll need a BB phone to have the remote control ability with the playbook.
