Default 9800 totally dead...repair or upgrade??

Hey guys and gals...I need some advice...I dropped my torch on the floor last night, and now I have no lights, no lcd, no keyboard light...nothing. It will not power up. I tried a different battery to no avail, so now I assume the hardware.

Here's the thing...I don't believe it's the screen at this point...I am guessing the main motherboard that contains the sim card and has the charging plug attached...in other words, the main brain.

I can either buy a used torch for 100-150 and use for parts, or upgrade to a 9810 (still want the slider model) and pay around 250-300 for something used, or like new.

Any thoughts?

Also, if I did upgrade to a 9810, are any of the 9800 parts compatible with the 9810?

Can I use a 9810 motherboard in a 9800?

Thanks in advance.

My take is if you break something and repair it you are still taking a big chance... you could go through all of this and by the time you done you are still not guaranteed to have a stable handset... you are then out your investment.... If you shell out the extra coin now you at least have a new smartphone which should work properly an a warranty to boot.....

Good Luck....

Upgrade and use it as it is. Don't take out parts for 9800.

the 9810 is a different animal from the 9800. I'm sure that the mother board won't work with the 9800. If you can upgrade, you'll be very happy with the 9810. It's faster by a lot.

Yeah, I got a 9810 for my gf last week, and was quite impressed overall. I guess its my turn, and I'll hold onto my 9800 until i find one cheap with a broken screen or something.

....never hurts to have a backup phone around.

it could be the main ribbon also ..... and a 9810 board WILL NOT work in a 9800 ....the connectors are different, and so are the LCD connectors too.

take it to a reputable repair shop and don't try any "frankenstein" ideas with the phone

Ok, I bit the bullet and bought a 9810...really nice phone, like new.

However, if anyone had any idea where I can find a 9800 with a broken screen or a roughed up case for 50 bucks or so, I can replace the motherboard on my 9800 as a spare phone.

Thanks all for your replies.
