Hey to all Torch users, I have one quick question. I successfully unlocked my Torch as I am abroad and am using a local sim card. One thing I have noticed is that on the top screen, beside my signal strength, I'm seeing 3g (that's a lowercase g). I've seen screenshots of other Blackberry users and noticed they have 3G (capital G).

Should I be concerned about it? What are your thoughts about this. Are they basically the same? Because I've never seen here on the boards a 3G with a lowercase G. I appreciate your input on this matter guys. You're a big help!

I think you're right. Because i'm on a pay as you go plan where i'm located and i don't have a data plan. So i'm assuming, if i register for a data plan, it's gona magically turn into a capital G? =)

    thanks again.

I've seen "3g" before but I had no idea what it meant. Thanks for the post! Something new learned today... I feel smarter already!

Also if you hit an edge network, lower case 'edge' means np data as well

As another aside, CDMA BBs also switch between "1x" and "1X" as well as "1xev" and "1XEV" depending on your data connection status.

If 3G means you have data, then what does the BlackBerry logo mean?
Whether BIS is working or not?

The BlackBerry logo indicates that you're connected to a RIM/BlackBerry Data Plan, either BIS or BES.

Well I don't know if that what all that means...(Lower case and/or upper case) I've seen upper case and lower case G's as well as "E D G E".. Right now I'm in an area what that has no 3G but I'm web browsing with the "e d g e"... plus I have a 5.99$ internet plan from 2005. Bets paying 30$... But what is data?? Internet access? Long story short, lower case letter means you have no active bb data plan and upper case letters mean you have an active bb data plan

I actually just learned this the other day when my mom forgot to pay the phone bill and I lose the 3 dots beside the 3G and the G turned small.

But what this fellow says, is definitely correct.
