Kasperapd –
This is a breeze and works like a charm. After I make the changes in the .alx file the following themes become available:
AT&T
BB Demension Icon
BB Deminsion Today
BB Deminsion Zen
O2 Today
02 Zen
Orange
Sprint
Telefonica Zen
TIM Zen
T-Mobile Zen
Verizon
Vodafone Today
However the Verizon and Sprint Themes say No Preview Available when scrolling over them in the theme options and do not seem to load when selected. Those are the only two I see an issue with. The rest of them work great. Thanks for the tip! Do you know of any other tricks? - 06-21-2007, 03:30 PM

You will need to download the operating system to get the .alx file.

Well the OS is loaded when you load the OS. If you don't remember loading it, then it's probably not there.

Go to this site and download and install for Alltel.

You should follow this path on your PC to the files:
C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Shared/Loader Files/8800-v4.2.1.74_P2.3.0.54
The last folder will be different of course and correspond to the OS you just installed.
If that doesn't work, run a search on your PC for blackberry.alx - 06-27-2007, 06:06 PM #38
Thank you for all your help, but things are still not working.
I think that it is possible that Alltel hid the .alx file.
I tried doing the search and it still comes up with "not found".
There is no file labeled C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Shared/Loader Files/.
After accessing the C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion it goes directly to four files named appload - modemdriver - rimdevicemanager - usb drivers, can't find anything in any of those files.
At this point, I am giving up. I'm sure that at some time I will be able to purchase the themes I am looking for.
Hint hint to all the theme builder people out there

You might want to make sure that your PC is not hiding the files.

Well, I don't have an 8830 to say for sure, but I'm guessing if there's a blackberry.alx file in the OS, it can be modified.

Thank you Kasperapd, excellent guide. I just have one question, should I also remove all the vendorID that are in the lines like this:
<fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0" _vendorID="100">
Thank you again for your kind assistance and support.

I will tell you that I have no idea what you will or won't gain if you do that. I have never seen anyone doing that before so I just can't give you a good answer. Sorry.

Thank you Kasperapd. I assume you did not rmove or rename thse strings? I have renamed them with my service provider ID and so far is running smoothly. I have also upgraded the OS and there are few differences from the previous OS. I have noticed that in the address book, trying to add a new address, does not capitalize the first letter. Don't know if it is supposed to be like that (it would capitalize before) or if it is a glitch. I will post what other differences I find.
Thank you again for your time and assistance.

I am possibly more confused then ever. I really want all the themes. And I've read everything I can about altering the .alx and so on. Still I am confused. Do i copy and paste all the new vendor themes? Do I have to pick an choos themes? I mean there are lot of questions. I have read the how to probably 5 times and I am still cluless. Is there anywhere/anyplace that has the most ***** proof instructions. I am fairly versed in computers but I am still clueless.
I stumble around looking how to define myself
