Default Bridge 2.0 update: the 48h notice of OS2 availability

Still debating when OS2 will be available? Feb14 as a Valentine's day special?

Well if this was the case, we would have gotten a Bridge update. You see, each time we get an os update, we get a Bridge update first. RIM even confirmed this would be the case with OS2.

I respect RIM for not dropping a fixed date. THey play with their cards close to their chest, and it prevents any backlash for not delivering on a fixed date. With this in mind, this is the ONLY certainty of an OS upgrade: a bridge update first.

I'm wondering whether both will be released at the same time. [speculation... also, donning flame proof suit]. It would make sense to release bridge to generate excitement and buzz.

On the other hand, it would effectively blow the cover off planned press releases etc.

I can't imagine that an os update runs off the same servers that App World does, so I'm hoping to avois people saying that this would overload traffic etc.

Any thoughts?

Bridge updates have always preceded Playbook OS updates. Bridge is backward compatible and Playbook updates require the fixes/enhancements. DM mightor might not require an immediate update. Previously, bridge updates have come 12-24 hour before Playbook OS updates.

I'm encouraged by the excitement for the soon-to-arrive 2.0. February is almost half over. We've all made it this far. It is coming. We just don't know exactly when. So you have two choices: Either keep creating speculation threads to keep you from endlessly pressing your 'check for updates' button, of you can just...keep calm...be bold

I've found that Bridge updates have always come just 4-5 hours before an OS update. Previously, we've see the bridge/BBM updates be available around 10pm and the OS update arriving 1-3am EST but there have been exceptions.

My guess is that we'll see a similar pattern as it will give them a little extra time to work out any update issues or reported bugs that the the dedicated PLaybook fans who are first in line will report (on Crackberry).

A 1am EST release would initially see only the night owls in North America seeing the update and very early birds in Europe. That would give them a couple of hours to work out any update surprises before the media picks them up.

Of course, I may be totally wrong and they go with a "big bang" announcement and put trust and faith in their update delivery model.

As a first day PB buyer, who paid full price it would be nice if we could get the update ahead of all the others that bought it recently at a reduce price.

There's no way this would happen. When it gets released, we won't be getting an update the next day. They're making sure everything is as close to perfection as possible. They want to rock it with the first update to OS2.

i realized lately that RIM guys went from 'Feb release' a couple of months ago, to the 'expected Feb release' in the past weeks. With no Bridge or DM update, im increasingly nervous.

This could be positive buzz/suspense from RIM, or turn into bad press March 1st.

With the App submission offer ending on Feb 13, I expect more of the following:

- Bridge update this week (Feb 14th most likely)
- Playbook OS 2.0 the week after (Feb 21th most likely)

At least backup compatibility with 2.0, I'm not sure what else. There have been backup problems reported with the 2.0 beta so I'm assuming this is one fix to be included. DM 7.0 for Widows is currently in beta and can be downloaded. I saw the link posted in one of the forums here. I think it was in the instructions for using Dingleberry but I didn't test the link.
