Will Storm 2 work on Verizon 4G rollout in 2010?
Was wondering about this since a Nov release of S2 is immenient and Verzion rollout of LTE in 25-35 markets in 2010.
Thanks - 07-24-2009, 12:23 PM #2
It better.
Don't ask, and we won't tell.
This is my opinion and in no way reflects the opinion of Verizon Wireless or its affiliates. Do not consider talking to me a substitute to actually talking to a Verizon representitive, because I often lie. I find it very sad and pathetic that anyone would actually read this far... And to anyone who reads this and thinks its dumb a big middle finger to you. - 07-24-2009, 12:27 PM #3
I doubt it. Only time will tell for sure.

That would mean it would have:
* UMTS/HSPA: 2100 MHz
* North America: 850 MHz GSM®/GPRS networks
* North America: 1900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
* Europe/Asia Pacific: 1800MHz GSM/GPRS networks
* Europe/Asia Pacific: 900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
* Dual-Band: 800/1900 MHz CDMA/Ev-DO networks
* North America: 700 MHz LTE
* WiFi
I bet it doesn't have an LTE radio seeing that there has been very little buzz about Qualcomm having any LTE chips ready to go to production any time soon."By the Code of Hammurabi both your eyeballs will be taken, they'll be pulled out of your head holes, and shown to your body." - 07-24-2009, 12:50 PM #6
Imminent? Where is this info from?

Agreed, Qualcomm is behind in producing their LTE chipset, they won't have samples ready until end of Q3 2009. The hardware for Storm 2 was completed in 2008 so it definitely doesn't support LTE. Storm 3 is probably when we will see support for LTE since the hardware specs might not be finalized yet, either way it won't happen until Qualcomm has its chipset ready, they are the biggest player in the multi-mode communications sector.rooted Motorola Droid X

sorry

More like mid-2012 at best. Qualcomm said back in April the MSM 8960 LTE multi-mode chip for handsets probably wouldn't be ready for vendor sampling until 2011. Tack on 12-18 months to that for integration and product testing. Wouldn't shock me if even a third gen Storm is not LTE capable.

I doubt the storm 2 will be a 4G phone. Not only is 4G not out yet, but its unlike RIM to be ahead of the curve like that (remember how long it took for them to adopt 3G?) Don't worry the storm 2 will still work with 3G. Its not like they turn off 3G for 4G. Both will be operational for awhile, and 3G will slowly be replaced over years as 4G expands
