Default Thinking about Getting a new Storm 2

I'm thinking about going back to a BlackBerry and I think Storm 2 is the best option as I like a full touch screen. Verizon is giving away a free Storm 2 with an activation. I think I'll get it here.

Let me know what you guys think. Pros/cons?

The replacement device for the Storm line is coming soon, I'd wait.

Welcome to CB. As with all devices, it really depends on what you will use your device for and what your expectations are.
On the pros, the S2 has mostly been a good device, and free is good. I am with you on wanting a bigger screen, but you can't type quite as fast on the virtual keyboard. However, I can quickly do things with one hand. In all fairness, I have not owned any other BB so if I I had used both a Bold & S2 long enough to get fast on both devices, might have another opionion. I can move fast, have all my info (most of my use is phone, calendar, tasks, email & text) plus easily sync with my laptop. The security features are important to me.
The biggest con is that the S2 is old and I doubt there will be any more OS updates. So while I used to be happy with it, my expectations have changed and I am looking foward to the new devices. I would wonder how long the device would be supported. It is free for a reason. Hope this helps some.

I had terrible experiences during the 18 months I had a S2. I wouldn't recommend it.

It was frequently slow and choppy. Typing SMS messages was a painful ordeal. Battery pulls were typical, followed by a 6-7 minute reboot. App support was laughable. Updates from RIM simply created more problems. The browser was useless. And by the end, call quality had eroded to the point where people couldn't hear me.

Some people say they had no issues, but I was quite the opposite.

I would either hold out until RIM releases some new phones (??) if you really want another BB, or pick up an Android or iOS based phone. To me, free isn't worth it.

For just a 2¢ bit, I know it seems tempting at that price, but with a true touchscreen device coming with better functionality, there is know way I'd upgrade to a near-obsolete device with an inconsistent history of reliability. Every owner of one I know right now is restraining themselves from throwing their device thru the nearest wall. It tendsd to be a love-hate-scream loud obscenities type of relationship.

Well, I have been using a storm II, since a long time and I never had any serious issues with it. Any device has limited scope for use and abuse, the storm did and still does everything I need it for. I'd say if you are getting such a great deal with a storm -II, go for it!

I have had all the above problems with my S2. They were ALL due to apps I downloaded and once I deleted them it solved the problem. The exception was a loose battery door that caused the phone to shut off. I got the idea off of CB to tape two business cards on the inside of the door. Battery was held tight & problem solved.

For you maybe. Overall, not even close.

With the exception of a few, every OS I ran on my Storm2 was a complete piece of ****; 320 was absolutely laughable, 607 & 713 were big fails too.

I've had a storm 1 and storm 2 since the beginning. I love my storm 2 however it does have its issues. I would not use an upgrade for a storm at this point. the fact that the new OS won't work on the device would be a deal breaker for me. I would hold out a few months when the new BB's are released. If you can't wait I would look on eBay. I am sure you can get one for $100-$150. In fact I have an extra one that I would sell you for $130. It is mint, not a mark on it. My son had it for a month and then got he iPhone. He has a dock for it as well. PM me if you are interested. Anyway my point is not to sell you a phone but to tell you to wait until the new phones come out.

Don't do it! It's free for a reason--it's a very problematic phone.

This coming from the guy who claimed his Storm2 was "flawless". You're about a year and a half late to the party, dave

I think the storm 2 is a solid communication device. What I love the most about bb's is all you have to do is activate the it, transfer email accounts, hit the door. With other brands, you have to tinker with it to fit your needs. In all my experiences, all smartphones have bugs. It all depends on what you can tolerate. I agree with the others. I would try to get one 2nd hand, due to the age of the phone.

It's free because it's old tech and vzw needs to clear them out.
Id recommend waiting for a new bb, our at least just buying one off ebay for nearly the same price.
