Tether download speeds

What kind of download speeds are you guys seeing? iPhone speedtest

I'm on the Verizon 3G network and I'm seeing some pretty slow speeds. Wondering if it has more to do with the phone or the network. Just ran the test and got 710kbps which is one of the higher results....

I'm trying to fight the temptation of jumping on the 4G LTE bandwagon.

Update: saw a little 1000kbps while on the highway with good line of sight to cell phone towers. Seems that is about the best it can do. Also noticed that the latency is much higher when running the speed test on the phone as opposed to the iPad. Is this due to the BB compression or whatever it's called? In any event, the Verizon 3G network is definitely much slower than the competitors.
