| | switching from curve to storm2
I currently have a BB Curve 8330 on verizon and really like the phone, but I'm just curious if I can swap to the storm2 since Im currently 4 months into my contract with Verizon? Will I have to pay the full price for the phone or will I be able to get it at promotional price?

You are going to have to pay full price unless you can find a CS rep that sucks horribly at math. Looks like you jumped into the crack a little too soon my friend.
Hey, maybe you can find somebody that bought the S2 and wants to trade it for the Curve......stranger things have happened. I can't think of any but I am sure stranger things HAVE happened.....

I would call customer service up and see if you can work one of the reps to allow you to do an exchange or a really early upgrade.

I am sitting the fence whether to upgrade to the Storm 2 from my 8330 Curve, but I am not thoroughly convinced that the bugs have been worked out. I looked at the new 8350, but it is not a global ready. That 5.0 OS, and that new track pad are looking REALLY tempting though.... The part that is keeping me attached to my Curve is that it has always been reliable. I have only had to do a battery pull about 5 times in almost 2 years. And 0.. yes 0, since I got the OS update 4.5.0.138. It keeps me connected to those I need to be, and it keeps me on track with my scheduling and my business. Decisions, Decisions..

Hi, I tried a storm-sucked-then a storm2 -just the same despite the ads. I came to the conclusion-still -curve is the best bb. No contest. My 8900 is cooll. I just love reading the problems on this forum. Haha, makes me smile.

Don't listen to naysayers. Touchscreens may not be for everybody but you will never know unless you try one out. If you can somehow swing getting a new storm 2, just try it out. See how it feels. I personally loved my Curve 8330. It was and still is a great Blackberry. But once I made the switch I realized that the S2 is everything the Curve was and MORE. More memory, better processor, bigger screen, wifi, etc....
It is a really well rounded device. IF you can figure out how to get one!

Ignore the trolls. The storm 1 is a solid device and you can pick one of those up off of eBay now pretty cheap. Try one of those and that will hold you over to your upgrade. And by then the storm 3 will be out. About the only differences between s1 and s2 are memory, wifi, and the screen tech. The s1 with 5.0 is solid. Ice had mine for a month or so and have not had to a battery pull yet. Not one. Just throwing out an idea as I was sorts in the same boat.

I just made the switch from the 8330 and am very happy with my decision. The speed, bigger screen and just how well it functions surprise me. The browser still sucks but after trying opera mini 5 beta and then bolt I finally tried opera mini 4.2 and with some messing with the options found a great browser for me. IMO this is the best blackberry yet... And yes I have tried the droid. Great phone but not for me.

i switched from a rock solid 8330, to a 9550 2 days ago and so far i'd have to say that there are some small things that could use refining such as the slow browser, and getting used to the touch/click screen. i'd have to say that it's easier to use than my curve was in the beginning.....so far so good..

I switched from Storm 1 to Storm 2.
I'm actually one of the people who really liked the Storm 1...but could never go back now. The Storm 2 has been SOOO much better in my opinion. Is it "perfect"? No, but I'm not sure any device, by any manufacturer is. I will say the improvements are noticeable and substantial.
The OS isn't that much different, but thanks to the increased memory, it is much "snappier". I no longer have to worry about how many apps I have installed or running, as not only is there finally sufficient app memory, but it also seems to leak a lot less. The new sure-press incarnation is much improved and simply feels more solid and clicks consistently on all areas of the screen. The browser simply flies once you get WiFi setup, and in my experience it loads pages MUCH faster even over the network.
To answer the OPs question, I believe that as long as you've had your current phone for at least a year and your base package with Verizon is at least $59/month, you *should* be able to upgrade at the 2-year contract price (as long as you're willing to renew the contract for another 2 years). I've never had a problem doing this by calling CS. Granted, you won't get your "New Every Two" on top of that...but that is still substantially less than full retail. I haven't looked into any 3rd party vendors, but there are some threads in this forum regarding them...may want to look into them if you're trying to get the best deal.

Hey thank you all for the feedback. It is making my decision to switch to a touchscreen easier. I can always have my Curve as a back up and use it from time to time. I just love how it does what I need it to do. I hardly ever use the browser, but on the occasions I do, the speed never bothered me. In fact, it has saved me on several occasions when I was away from my iMac. I have friends who have the Droid and my brother has the iPhone, but I like how Blackberry has everything I need for my business on the phone. I do not need anymore apps, nor do I need music or pictures for that matter. AND, it syncs to my iMac flawlessly. If the Storm 2 can do all of these as easily as the Curve, then come March, I am going to jump off the fence and into Storm-land to become a Storm Trooper!
