The explanation was posted in other threads long time ago and various times. I tried for months to get the data to work on a S1 that I managed to activate on Sprint. Here is why YOU WILL NEVER HAVE BIS ON A S2 ON SPRINT:

RIM sees the S2's pin in their system and immediatelly sends Sprint a "cease and dessist" letter to terminate the service for that phone in 24 hours, due to exclusivity contracts. Run a search on CB forums and you will see that I am right, plenty of S1 cases. So, you might get "dumb" data if you are very good with CDMA WOrkshop and you manage to play with NAM and EVDO settings of the phone and have the S2 act like a "dumb" phone (Sanyo, Samsung, Iphone) but you wil NEVER get BIS, only web-based data browsing. That's an idea, I couldn't get it to work. Service books trick won't work because Sprint won't add the PIN to their system. I still have my S1 that has the ESN added to SPrint and it only does SMS and voice. Good luck

There is another way. But it's not something you need to worry about.

Or you need to stop and think how much cheaper it would be to just buy a T-mo plan and Sim card.

ciprianmuresan is right. You won't make this happen without some SERIOUS modification, programming skill and ingenuity. Even then you are going to have to be in Wifi range with the S2. Not worth it.

a 8830 or a 8330A? Don't forget that the cheapest MEID Blackberry on Sprint is the 8330A (or 8330m). S1 and S2 are meid phones with no esn.

Also, a friendly advice : we should carefully "filter" what we post here, this is a serious website that only allows legal things.

And yes, the RIM guy was right. You do have a paper weight S2. It can send sms and make voice calls on Sprint, so it is a more advanced PWP.

You may well be right. I'm only familiar with the idea (that something tells me you either know about or have a good handle on how it works) and non RIM equipment.

And I did try to only say enough to confuse and deter...maybe I over stepped. I'll edit. Thanks for bringing it to my attn.

Noope. I had a Tour too when I tried to get the S1 to work. It won't help you with anything. Not anything that I know of. I mean, let's see : NAM settings, EVDO settings, PRL, CDMA service menu, none of these will help you. Even if you copy the Tour's MEID into the S2-it is not posible, since the S2's memory it is scan protected, plus is highly illegal and you shouldn't even think about it-you won't be able to copy the PIN, and without exact PIN and MEID , ther won't be any BIS. The ESN and PIN have to match what RIM has issued, if you have a let's say good pin but a bad meid or the other way around, will result in no HRTs and no BIS. Do not kill the Tour, it's a nice guy
