Default Storm 2 cuts off, restarts, battery dies

Recently for the past 2 weeks my storm 2 has been cutting off randomly while im either on twitter, surfin the web, playing a game basically doing anything. All of sudden it just cuts off(then a the time sand(w/e) rotates for awhile), then attempts to come back on(and sometimes it does restart) when it does come back on the battery is fully dead despite it being fully charged before the random blackout has occurred. If it doesnt restart back to my main screen then it the red light flashes until charged again. i noticed that everyday i wake up at 7am and and take it off the charger, that by about 10:15 is when my phone will die(or randomly cut off) in my pocket and i wont be able to use it for the rest of the day until i get home to put it on a charger. So is this a battery problem? i got this phone about year ago

Sounds like a battery, you can get batteries for the s2 cheap enough, like on amazon to buy one and see if it helps.

Default New Battery Charging Issue Here Too

I've had my Storm 2 for about years, and very recently I started having battery issues. Initially I noticed that on occasion the battery icon would not show the yellow lightening bolt while charging -- and it was in fact not charging. For the last 2 weeks I've barely been able hold a charge more than a few hours. (I had not changed any settings, and keep wifi turned off, backlight low, very few apps running, etc....)

I purchased a new battery a few days ago and am still having the same problem holding a charge. I don't know if this could be some sort of circuit problem or a software glitch. I'm going to see if I can reload the OS (I think it's current on updates) and see what happens...

Default Update didn't help the battery...

Installed a new update, checked battery, made sure background apps were closed, wifi off -- charged 6 hours and the phone lost almost half of the battery charge overnight. It's a brand new battery.

Haven't dropped the phone lately, so wouldn't necessarily think this is a hardware issue. Am curious to know if others are experiencing this...

Hi there, I have a storm 2 that has had the same issues, my problem isn't fixed by getting a new battery, as I have done that and the problem has continued.

Please if anyone has any advice.
Thank you in advance, Dixon

BTW it's running v5.0.0.607

I thought I was going nuts as the only one with this problem. Mine occurs mostly when I'll be texting (CrunchSMS). I'll be typing, get the white error screen, and the phone will reboot. But it seems to hang, as if the battery is low. Sure enough, the battery went from a full charge to completely empty. I know a restart drains on the battery, but this is ridiculous. Phone has never been dropped, and is charged daily overnight (and is usually hooked up to something during the day as well to charge).

I'm changing the OS to see if that helps, but if not, I'm ready to dump the Storm2 and start looking for a Droid. None of the current Blackberrys are doing anything for me. But either way, I'd like to get this fixed, because in the event I can't get to a charger, having the phone randomly die and lose its charge is not cool.

FWIW, as an update, reinstalling/upgrading the OS did help (I had been running .1015 for awhile now because it was the most stable one I'd come across, but went back to .1082 which I had initially ditched because of some smartdialing issues). I haven't had any battery draining restarts since then.

This started happening to me on my storm 1 about the same time you started having problems. It started after I downloaded the free copy of beejewled. I spoke with verizon techs who had me wipe my phone then restore my last save; problem didn't go away. Since it's a software issue they're replacing my phone and I'm getting upgraded to a storm 2. I would've liked a Torch 1 at least but hey, free is free.

So, just as an update...despite the phone running much smoother than it did before my OS upgrade, the battery died and lost nearly all of its charge again tonight.

Can't wait until black friday...maybe Verizon will have a deal on an HTC Droid. I'm thinking it's time to upgrade. Although it looks like a replacement battery can be had for < $4 on Amazon right now.

Can anyone recommend a reputable dealer for purchasing a replacement battery? I can get it from Amazon.com (straight from Amazon, not a 3rd party) in retail packaging for around $35, but 3rd party sellers list them for < $5. However, it seems like you get what you pay for - reviews note many of the batteries are junk, not new, etc.

What would y'all recommend?

Well I'm already on my second Storm 2 and will get a third on Monday after the holiday. I have no idea what the issue is but I'm really hoping Verizon/Blackberry steps up and does right by me as I can't have a phone that resets just by looking at it.

FYI I tried using a new battery and that didn't help. Do ya think this could be RIM trying to force people to upgrade by corrupting older OS? Is there an issue with App world as my problems only arise when I try to use an app?

I have the issue narrowed down to two possibilities; one, the OS is so old that it's starting to break down because of the apps being updated to work on the new OS 7, or two, app world is screwed up. Depending on your carrier the OS you have now is the most recent. Trying to instal an OS across carriers might cause problems with your phone.
