Sick of Verizon pricing - Bringing my Storm2 to other Cell providers...?
Gents (and ladies), I love my Storm2. But Verizon is just too expensive and after 12 years, I am going to have to say goodbye when my contract is up this fall.
But the last thing I want is to sell my beloved Storm2 for something else. I love this phone.
After much research I am totally confused on what my options are. Verizon can UNLOCK this phone for me. All I need do is call and say I am going overseas for a trip. Boom. They will unlock my phone (my prior Storm2 was unlocked exactly like that. Too bad it was stolen while overseas! insurance replacement was a nightmare, but that is another story).
So once unlocked, I see I can definitely use it with AT&T, but they are almost as expensive. Ouch. And I keep reading I will not get 3G coverage at all. That's a deal killer right there. Virgin Mobile is out. They will not allow you to bring in another phone from Verizon. I am fairly certain about that.
But what about MetroPCS? I am in NYC so they are fully operational with superb coverage. I know their customer service is garbage. But if I can just bring my phone over to them, it is worth a try. Month to month = if don't like, I can go elsewhere.
However, I read conflicting information on this. Some say yes, some no. Some yes to 3G and others say it will only be 2G. Isn't Google grand?
What about BoostMobile? If I read correctly, no.
Are there any other providers that I am not thinking of? Any other options?
I'd like to keep my phone number. I have had it for over ten years.
