Take it for what it's worth but there are two Storm devices heading your way in the next couple of months but each of them will have their own 'constraints'. For obvious reasons (****ing carriers) ofcourse.

I think you kind of answered the question yourself there. Chances are good that what Engadget got their hands on was just a prototype. More of an overall design intent device, if you will. The screen could have been just glued on. RIM wouldn't want the new SurePress design to get leaked out this early would they? Especially not if the patent for it is still not fully secured.

As you said, they couldn't click the "Accept" button for the EULA, so that right there points to SurePress still showing up.

You see the same concept in, for example, Best Buy. The phones they have on display usually have all the buttons fixed. More of a plastic shell so you can get an idea of what you're buying.

The pictures I saw of storm 2 looked like there were still cracks around the screen, just much smaller.

In my opinion, I think the screen for the Storm 2 will be something similar to that of a garmin gps screen. You can rub your fingers on it as much as you want, but it requires a little bit of pressure to recognize what you are trying to do. Pure observation / hope.

I can't see RIM dropping the click; the whole point was to provide tactile feedback to the user. No click = no feedback (unless they put in haptics; they do that and I'm looking for a different device come upgrade time instead of the S2).

In other words, instead of a nice, sensitive capacitive touchscreen; you'd like it if the Storm 2 were to revert to a resistive touchscreen? You do realize that resistive touchscreens are inherently dodgy in day to day use, right? (selecting things when you meant to scroll, things like that)
