Verizon won't be carrying the Storm 9570, I didn't hear that they won't be carrying the LTE version next year.

Bold 9650 is a better device than the Storm 2. It also has OS6 support. That's really the only upgrade BB you can get right now and stay with VZW. If you wanna switch to AT&T you can get a Torch.

Wait till the 4G storm comes some time in early 2011

Wait til next year. the "refresh" was lame enough to be canceled, so don't be too disappointed. a better Storm should show up in 2011.

Well Storm 2 hasn't been out a year yet, so you have at least another to go, I'm sure you'll be fine. As was said, LTE Storm and probably others that we don't know of yet.

I'm in the same boat as you. As I upgrade annually, I suspect I'll give the Droid X a shot. If RIM has a competitive product available next year at this time, I may be back. However, there's really no reason to believe RIM is ever going to be a market leader in the touchscreen space, especially against the landscape of constant one-upsmanship in the Android universe.

I needed another phone line so I got the Droid 2, and returned it. But for one reason only, it was not a Global phone. Other wise, I loved the phone. I have an upgrade coming in December and will most likely go to the Droid with the new Global phone.

I just like the touch and larger screen that is not available on the other RIM VZW products.
Always a Storm in my hands.

Same issue but I work for a large corporation that uses Blackberry Enterprise so I have been limited to RIM Blackberry. BUT, one of my associates claims he just got a Droid X and got the corporate IT guys to hook him up with his corprate e-mail through good.com. Make sense?

I really can't see getting a new phone before the LTE models roll out sometime next year. Buying a CDMA device... whether it's a BB, Android or something else... is dumping cash on dying technology.

I'll wait until I see the options before jumping ship. I'm hoping the REAL Storm 3 (as compared to the 9570 refresh) is a solid competitor to the LTE Android devices... and maybe even the rumored Verizon iPhone.

LTE? Since my download speeds are ~2Mbits/sec, do I really care about LTE?
No. Unless it's got a 4" screen, I won't be dumping my DroidX to come back to the Storm family.

All technology is dying... with varying degrees of speed. As for LTE, I'm fine with waiting till next October to get my first LTE device. For starters, the VZW LTE upgrade won't be complete until 2013. Second, how long will it be until all the VZW smart phones are LTE and there's a competitive market to make a selection from? Finally, as another poster pointed out, while LTE speeds will be nice, it's hardly a deal breaker. And the reality is, moving from my browser on an S2 to a browser on a DX will feel like I've been upgraded to LTE.

Both would be nice options to choose from.

I am on the other side of the fence when it comes to discussing the 9570. Why is it ok to have a 9780, but not a 9570. Why is it ok for Verizon to upgrade the curve to a tour. Its ok for Verizon to carry a Motorola Devour and LG Ally, but not a 9570. I wished we were given the choice. You'd be surprised how many people would have in fact upgraded to it. The only way I can make sense of it, is that Verizon is exhausted from the Storm 1 issues, and the Storm 2 had a "recall" so to speak. The returns probably bogged them down.

While the 9570 may look like a nice upgrade to some people here, your average Joe who walks into a Verizon store will be comparing the phone to others offered there. When there are devices like the Incredible, Droid 2, Droid X, and Fascinate on display, it makes selling a 9570 to someone other than a current BlackBerry user a tough sell. Joe will be looking mostly at aesthetics(9570 isn't exactly sexy), specs(the 9570 sucks when compared to all the above mentioned devices) and by what the sales rep tells them. As we all know, Verizon is in bed with Android. They push these devices like no other. I have heard them many times first hand. I never would have upgraded to the 9570 and I applaud Verizon for passing on it. RIM needs to bring the heat.

I think it should have been done - in a quiet manor - so Verizon can sell a Storm product until the new version comes out. When Verizon runs out of Storm2's are they simply not going to offer it any more? Many Storm 1 owners would have upgraded because waiting until 2011 is too long for them. At least this refreshed Storm would have a little more respectable specs and the flasher BB6. I'm sitting good, because my NE2 isn't up until June 2011, but I do feel for the original Storm owners.

Aesthetics? The Droid X looks like a 70s calculator! I do agree with you that Verizon is indeed in bed with Android like no other. Between the Incredible, the Droid 2, and the Droid X, I can't really see that much of a difference spec wise. Still think the Storm 2 would have been a nice quiet upgrade for the Berry heads, but you're right about Joe.

That's what I've been wondering.... if/when LTE is available, how much do you want to bet that we'll also see VZW change their pricing for data usage, and not for the better for the consumer.

Who is Joe? Not Joe Blackberry...

You have a lot of people who do not want to make too big of a jump in order to upgrade to a touchscreen. Ther build quality of a Blackberry is much better than say a HTC phone. Lets not forget that many people are tied to the enterprise service. So they want to get the coolest phone they can get. At the moment, they are limted to a 9650 running OS 6.

RIM better get out in front of this issue. They better go around Verizon and announce that a touch screen with OS 6 is coming to Verizon...

    Why?

    1) Storm 1 owners are coming up for renewal.
    2) Storm2 owners are coming up for a annual upgrade.
    3) Verizon salesmen tell everyone they can how great Droid is and how crappy BlackBerrys are.

I upgrade every year. Why? Because I seem to always be able to sell my prior phone for about what I paid for it on contract. It's beyond me why I can. But hey it's capitalism.

So, for folks like me I always upgrade my phone. Since jumping to the Storm you just can't go back to another Berry. I tried playing with the Bold at the Verizon store the other day. Yes I know it does not have OS 6.0... But without a touch screen it just leaves me cold...

Then I played with the Droid X... HOLY COW!!! I have technology lust... The heck with my Storm2... Oct 28th here I come!

In all seriousness, I do like the BlackBerry UI better than Droid on a touch screen. The browser was terrible, and Opera Mini is just not good enough. So, OS 6 would be able to hold me over till QNX...

But epic fail for RIM if I don't get more news on a Storm with OS 6 on Verizon soon.

October 28th I am walking in the Verizon store and picking up that Droid X unless I hear news about a touch screen on Verizon with OS 6 by Thanksgiving...

Sorry RIM, that's all I can give you... I need a new device every year. It's just too much fun, and I have no financial downside to do it.

Verizon is getting the IPhone... so why would they care about Storm users now?? And if its Droid touchscreens and IPhones they want to sell it seems like they are leaving BB users out in the cold. Like they really don't give a D**m.

It will be a cold day in Hades before Verizon gets the iPhone.

I keep telling my friends and family that Apple is driven by ideology not always rational business thought. Steve Jobs will not allow a CDMA iPhone. I know the reports say they have bought chips... I don't buy it. Steve Jobs has a religious conviction that there needs to be one phone to rule them all... Thus until Verizon has a fully rolled out LTE network (not needing to use CDMA for voice, or in 95% of the country) and the world is ready for LTE... Nope no iPhone on Verizon....

Plus at this point Steve Jobs is making the mistake he did last time (think Mac). Relegating his products to niche status. Droid and BlackBerry will be more available. And if a iPhone user says "but the iPhone is the most popular SINGULAR phone in the world" I will just slap them. Smartphones are about the platform stupid!

One thing I know for sure. Never underestimate RIM and their staying power in the market. People always discount them, and then they keep pulling in the marketshare and numbers. Granted, they are in a tough position right now, but RIM knows this business. They will probably always be a major player in this space.

Just because I am flirting with getting a X does not mean I don't like the BlackBerry platform. I just love Verizon's network better. Would I rather have a Torch than a Droid X? Yes. Do I have a choice? No, because Verizon won't be getting the Torch soon, and they dropped the Storm Refresh.

I bet RIM is tearing their hair out how to get a OS 6.0 touch screen play on Verizon ASAP!

By the time Verizon gets the iPhone, there will be so many other better phones no one will want it.... I am tired of hearing the same BS every year.... yes they are getting it, not they are not, yes they are, June 2010, BS.... Jan 2011, more BS ... the CEO himself last week said it's gonna be quite a while before Verizon gets the iPhone... at least not until they get 4g up and running.... Read the tech blogs man.... saying Verizon is getting an iPhone any time soon is just silly. No disrespect intended!
