Default Newest 9520 OS 5.0.0.306

Latest OS: 9520 5.0.0.475/5.0.0.306 (Multilanguage)

BlackBerry Handheld
Software v5.0.0.306 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.475
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.306
* Software Platform: 4.2.0.113
* File name: 9520AllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel475_PL4.2.0.113_A5.0.0.306 .ex e
* File size: 150MB

Download HERE

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9520:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in
BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot
(it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Question

Don't know if I'm missing the point here but here goes anyway..... isn't OS 5.0.0.306 the one Vodafone Uk shipped the S2 with

Just looked at my S2 (got it on launch day) and it's OS 5.0.0.306, is there any difference with this one or was it that it was only the UK ones shipped with this os?

Yep seems to be, this is what is on my Voda unlocked 9520 but maybe its not on other models hence the post, would be good if they updated it a little to get rid of the poor reception for calls and the USB power bug that comes up when using a charger that is not original.

I have a 9520 direct from Vodafone (partner's upgrade), which I have unlocked. Is there any point in re-installing the OS to get rid of vendor.xml? I am currently using the phone on O2 without any apparent issues. What does vendor.xml actually do?

The Vendor file just tells the upgrade which files to install and thus if the phone is the correct brand for the upgrade. No point in deleting the file since the Voda 9520 supplied by them shipped with 306 which is the latest release anyway at the moment.

If an official Vodafone release is given then you don't need to delete vendor file, if a beta version is given you don't need to either as beta's use blank vendor files, the only time you need to delete it is if you upgrading to a official version thats approved by a different network and not voda, if in doubt though just delete it.

I have several problems with v306, call quality on 3g and signal quality are terrible in low coverage areas, that combined with several bugs in the firmware I cant wait for an upgrade or beta release away from this version.

With any luck it wont be long now

Thanks for that, I won't bother reinstalling then.

The biggest bug for me is the ongoing homescreen issue, where it won't refresh my weather icon. I'm really hoping for a fix for that soon, and also, an option to 'reverse' the order of text messages, so that new ones appear at the top.

I also have .306 installed in my uk Voda s2.
My main issue is the screen dimming when I flip to landscape mode. Really annoying having to go back to portrait mode, wait for the screen to brighten then flip to landscape again.
I have also found my browser keeps defaulting to "my web" which is vodafones' modded wap config. This doesn't seem to use my wireless connection at all. I can tell when it randomly switches to this as the browser runs dog slow.
I may delete the vendor.xml file and load the OS linked here, it may remove vodas stupid wap config.
