how to disable suggestions?

I recently got a Storm 2 in primo condition with a bunch of accessories for a whoppin' $50.
I admit I'm not very impressed with typing on the surepress screen, but its not unbearable.

What I would like to know is if there's a way to be able to type freely, with no on screen spelling suggestions. How can I disable that? That word bar popping up is making me crazy

Yup, you can change this sort of thing under Options > Language and Text Input. Change the Input Style to Auto Correction, then click on the "Show Text Input Options" button and remove the check from the Auto Correction box. You should now be set.

Much better. Seriously, thank you. I don't actually think this phone is near as terrible as some people say. It is a different experience than the qwerty BlackBerry, but pretty cool as far as I can tell
