Unhappy Help!!! My it guy wont let me get a storm2

Hey guys - this is my first post. I'm a long time reader and blackberry freak.

So i told my IT guy two weeks ago that the Storm2 was coming out to prepare him so i can get it activated on our BES.
He said we have the latest version so i'm thinking cool no problem. Then he proceeds to tell me that i cant get one (even if i use my own $) because its "new technology" and there will be "bugs".

I basically explained (like in the cb review) that the S2 is like a new model year and it has all of the fixes. He didn't care.
I proceeded to send him every independent review i could find and he wasnt too happy.

He basically said to give up and that he appreciate the articles and they can seem reassuring but, its NEW, and to wait for it to be released for a few months into the REAL WORLD. That any IT professional will tell you the same thing with any new technology being deployed in a business environment. Initial reviews based on lab testing before product release are nice but are also marketed that way in many cases. Never go by the OEMs reviews. Also, some reviewers biggest contributors are the OEMS themselves from what I am told. Etc, etc, etc...

So I need your help CB. I told him i was starting a thread on here and hopefully people can comment on whether they are or are not having issues (in a BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT).
    Thanks!

your IT guy sounds like a *****

The 5.0 OS on the storm one runs fine on 5.0 BES and previous ones - I know because i've been on BES 5.0 for awhile and was on previous bes releases with a 5.0 OS

The physical device it's self won't change no matter how long you wait, lol. So your IT guy just thinks the OS will be buggy or something

Sorry, I have to agree (yes, I'm an 'IT Professional'). But, that's why I get it first!

It's more than likely not a listed device that can be activated by your company. Where I work many want the Tour, but it's not been given the go ahead by the company to activate it on BES...

Well thats a big difference that doesn't sound like the problem. Now of course if the company won't allow him to use the storm 2 than that's a done deal but if a random IT guy just thinks the OS will be buggy than that's stupid

were a small company. I've gotten the newest BB from VZ over the past 3-4 yrs. basically the day it came out (except for tour).
That has nothing to do with it...

Trust me the S2 will work perfectly fine on your BES if it's configured properly.

I've beening running the S1 on a a 5.0 BES for awhile with zero problems, ditto with an older BES

Of course he is right - tell him to make sure to lock down all the BB's in the company so they don't go to 5.x too - after all it's a new software version and you know how buggy those are...

Are they also going to forbid any Storm's that are updated to the latest (5.x) version from the network? And are they going to have the time to test every new version released from BB on every type of BB they have, before letting them access the server? Yeah, I didn't think so...

Tell him you will be the test guinnea pig and get him a case of some good beer lol. Honestly, we slso do not allow software upgrades by users on the phones connected to our BES until we have tested them. Tomorrow I will start testing on the new storm

To elaborate a bit, I won't allow others to have a newly released phone (on a company plan or on BES) until I've tested/believe in it. With the Storm1, it didn't happen until after the first software release - although I had it the first day, and I recommended against it after that as well.

I have to support them, so it's my choice what phone they get. I NEED to know the in's and out's before I get a phone call asking questions about it! This is especially important and applicable right now, since a *final* OS 5 version has been released.

    HAHA...
He said that he was told by his other IT friends that "every company has a guy or two like me".

I could have one in my hands first thing tomorrow. My rep bbm'd me 2 mins after he found out they were coming in tomorrow.

    I'm bummed...

In my organization, this is exactly my rule. But, I only have 20-some devices.

Well that's smart reasoning. Like I said before our end users get what we give them, they don't even have the power to buy a BB and put a company plan on a device. And they sure can't put a personal BB on our company BES. Every company runs differently, it seems like the OP is just getting jerked around though

have you tried punching him in the face? It's either he says yes or you're fired and sued, so I'd consider it a 2nd to last resort...

But if it is written down that you can't have a new BB, then your screwed. Otherwise, I would get it and activate it on your own phone bill and show him it isn't buggy. Or ask Kevin or Sal to kindly give him a phone call and explain how buggy it isn't :P

For the IT guys here that are getting one to test, please share any input you have once you've used it for a bit. (I'm sure that will be a sticky link tomorrow - Storm2 issues)

No, I love my job and haven't fought it. I am the Sales Director of our company and I could probably go to our President and get it done but I don't really want to F with our IT guy. He does help me out of a lot of jams!
