Has anyone figured out how to fix the Random Reboots/Restarts with OS .1015?
I've done a great deal of research here and abroad, but I'm really not turning up anything useful. I'm starting to lose hope, and I figure I should just downgrade, but I'm trying to keep the latest OS. Either way, I still want to know if anyone has found anything useful. I spent a few hours last night wiping and reloading, and today when I thought everything was fine, it all appeared to get worse. The random reboot monster struck again, but this time it wouldn't stop until I plugged my mashed berry into a charger. I've ordered a new battery that I'm gonna test when I get home, otherwise I suppose back down the hill I'll go.

I haven't had any random reboots on 1015. Now if you want to discuss some earlier versions of the Storm OS, that's another story for which I can provide some comments on.

Honestly, I'm open to any suggestions. I believe this is something we can figure out.

I removed some questionable apps and so far so good. I guess there's no way to test all the apps out there, so thats probably where RIM and Verizon mis-stepped with this OS. They obviously changed something that deals with the way apps are used. I noticed that when we normally get an OS update, app upgrades usually follow as they need to make changes to stay current and in working order with the new OS. But since the S2 is an afterthought, not many (if any) upgrades are being made to old Storm apps so thats where our problems are coming in.
I was getting random reboots daily, but after I removed STORMSLIDER, I haven't experienced any. I'm thinking the reboots are being caused by apps that need to be "on" constantly. Well that's just my lil hypothesis on the issue.

Two things I never load on my phone: 1) utilities, and 2) themes. that's probably why I have fewer issues with my phone than many on this forum that love loading their phones "to the gills" with utilities. too much crap makes the phone unstable, IMO. I could be wrong, but my wife's phone and mine are both pretty reliable and neither has a crapload of apps on them, and again, NO utility apps.

I've got some utilities apps and am running a theme and have yet to get a random reboot/restart.
Im betting its an app. I would remove them all, then add them slowly until your reboot presents itself. What ever happened to swipe up for keyboard? I miss that

Haven't encountered random reboots with .1015. Now, some older OS's on the Storm and Storm 2, that's a different story!

I ran into a few right after incoming phone calls that don't get answered. No rhyme or reason, just a reboot... no quick error message either.

I got them for the first couple of days. I hadn't done a pysical battery pull because I figured the reboot the phone was doing itself was good enough, but as soon as I pulled the battery myself I haven't had any random reboots.

I had several reboots too, downgraded OS

Odd!
So I ordered a new battery and received it yesterday. Put it in last night and charged it up. I haven't had any random reboots yet. Mind you I haven't changed how I usually use my phone. Now in no way am I suggesting everyone run out and get a new battery, I just think its odd thus far. Of course you know I'll keep you updated.
I don't use themes or utils either, so I understand where you're coming from. I actually never had any type of OS problems until I loaded this latest official OS on my S2. I even tried a hybrid when I had my S1, and problems others were haven't I didn't. And I was just messing around! This is really weird I tell you.
Been there, the other night when I spent a few hours wiping and reloading, I got a random reboot, right after a fresh install and batt pull. NO APPS! I'd like to believe its an OS problem but I recently installed a new batt last night, and haven't had the random reboot yet.
I had a few in the middle of calls. As a matter of fact this is the night following all the wipes and installs. Like I said in my OP, it was so bad that my phone wouldn't even come back on. It just kept rebooting! The one thing I noticed is that it kills the battery when it goes on the fritz, that prompted me to get the new batt.Last edited by Thachoc1; 12-23-2010 at 10:08 AM.

Battery Drain
Has anyone noticed severe battery drain due to the reboots?!?! The other morning right after pulling my phone off the charger, on my way to work (Less than a 1 hr drive), my phone started the rebooting and when it finally completed my battery was completely toast!

Only reboots I got were when playing OpenGL games.

Luckily I've only had a few since the upgrade. I have notice on some restarts there is a message saying there is a scheduled restart in one day, only thing is I have never had any scheduled restarts set on my phone? maybe something to do with it?

maybe that has something to do with it. ill doubt its the battery. -

A regular reboot cost 10 percent off the battery. A sudden reboot due to OS fault will take away 40-60 percent.

And that's typically because there was some process that was causing serious problems and draining the battery before the reboot.
Random reboots with serious battery drains are typically indicative of something that is corrupted. A proper battery pull can help depending on what is corrupted (e.g. App data), but other times it doesn't (e.g. If there's a corrupted file). In that case, the only real solution is a wipe and OS reload.
For those having this problem after they wiped as a part of the upgrade, it can still happen as files are occasionally misloaded. Wipe and reload and you should be fine.

Random Reboots During Calls
I get them about once every 2 wks - during phone calls. Shoot, I was chewing out a RIM level 2 tech when I got one ! (It was about the clock support, which they said was not essential.)
I DO run AP News, Reuters, WSJ, and Bloomberg all the time. Memory needs to be protected by other than gentleman's rules for all the app builders: actual hardware needs to protect the OS. I DO have plenty of utilities.
Like howarmat says, it may be necessary to nuke the phone and reload all apps one at a time and not rely on the DM or what to help out.

Completely agree with everyone. Was having random reboots 3-4 times a day and the battery draining overnight with 3 bars when I went to bed. Deleted and re-installed apps one by one and found the problem. It was an app hanging up. Deleted the app, battery is great now and no reboots.

My Individual Solution!
Well guys 4 days later and still no random reboots. It appears that replacing the battery worked for me. I'll switch back to my old battery just to confirm! I'll continue to look for other answers. Thanks for all your feedback! Happy Holidays!

Did you apply the bedsidemode fix? That caused the reboots on mine. Reverted back & they stopped.
