Default Any reasons 'not' to get a Storm 2?

I need to get out of the stone ages and upgrade aging 8330 and though I know I'll adapt well to the Storm keyboard (actually prefer it to the Tour), I still have a few reservations about problems folks have posted here in this forum.

One of the biggest fears I have is I'll get one that eventually has the sagging display problem and Verizon won't exchange it because there will be some clause that it's "OK like that as long as it works". (You have to understand my local VZW store is really bad about exchanges unless it's true problem and then they have to be able to duplicate it).

Should I be worried about this? How long does it take to manifest for those who've experienced the problem? If it's in the first 30 days I can always return it I guess.

Any other "issues" that I should be able to accept if I get the S2? Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

I didn't have any issues with 2 of the 3 S2's I received in the last few weeks. I exchanged the first one because the left lower side of the screen was intermittently loose, as if the pizeo thingy underneath the screen in that quadrant, was sometimes not resetting itself properly. When the screen was loose there, if I put the phone to sleep, it would remain loose. Turn it back on, do a few things onscreen and after a while the screen would return back to normal (no looseness, which was like a fake "click" when barely touched). If i put the phone to sleep when it was tight, it would remain tight until sometime later, after it was resumed. That's why I think the issue was with the piezo gizmo.

Other than that, I didn't have any screen issues. (Just OS issues requiring battery pulls and even several reloads of the OS)

Thanks, Dave. I'm not too worried about software/firmware issues as they'll likely get resolved (eventually). Was more concerned with the hardware things because of the way my local VZW store is. Did they give you any grief with your exchange?

Absolutely not. They cheerfully put another NEW storm2 into service for me at the Verizon store. Same thing when I returned both Storms. I've never been hassled by Verizon for returning or exchanging anything.

Hey Dave was wondering what that issues were that required the pulls and also why the OS reloads. I've had mine since release date and after going into the apps section and deleting all the extra crap I didn't want, I haven't had to do anything but use it. With my S1 I would always use SAO to get rid of the extras, but was mainly to free up app space, with the S2 I've got more than I know what to do with....lol. Just wondering if that was what caused all the OS reloads.

I agree...but I'm only worried about the few "hardware" complaints I have read about here and other forums.

The S2 is not plagued with hardware problems like the Storm1 was. There are a couple issues but for most they are not deal breakers. The 2 issues I am aware of are the screen being slightly raise at the upper right, and the 4 buttons at the bottom being occasionally hard to press. I have the latter, but it's so in frequent I have not exchanged my device for it.

I'm not saying there hasn't been any hardware issues, but given the past history with the S1, I'd say some, not all people have gotten maybe a little too overcautious with the phones hardware. Have had mine since release and have had no problems whatsoever, anyway what have you got to lose with the 30 day return policy. Give it a go and if ya don't like take it back.

Hey Rich have you noticed if when the buttons are hard to push are you all the way centered or on the edge, as I've noticed mine has been this way a couple of times, but after getting used to it have noticed I'm usually on the edge or not centered. Just wondering.

How come this has become acceptable? It should never be acceptable to have OS issues requiring constant battery pulls and reloads of the OS. NEVER! If you purchase an expensive smartphone, it should work. Now of course no smartphone is 100% perfect out of the box, not the iPhone, not the Droid, not any BB, but there should not be issues of random resets, or lockups that require battery pulls or OS reloads. This is a huge problem and the fact that people accept it will only make it worse. If phone manufacturers sense that people are ok with such issues then they dont have a sense that they need to continually work on their software (or hardware) to release a product without such issues.

I love my Storm II. Its quick, does not lag, seems more sturdy. Its just a great device. I am super excited about the open platform stuff (or whatever you call it). More good apps to come. There's really nothing to not like.
