Am I unlocked?

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a Verizon Storm 2 from eBay and called their Global Support to have the GSM unlocked so I can insert my sim when I travel. They walked me through a few steps and I typed the 9 digit code they gave me. Verizon claims my device has been unlocked but when I inter-change 2 sim cards, I have a "insert sim card" on the screen. I have also changed the network feature from Global to GSM/UTMS but no luck. I was wondering if I am unlocked? If so, will I at least be able to read the contacts on my sim? The sims are from Kerala, India and the companies are iDea! and Tata Docomo. I know I will not be able to place a call, but at least won't my contacts be visible?

If you type mepd from the sim card menu and it says disabled beside network then it is unlocked.
