Despite it saying its taking large pictures whenever I view the files properties on the blackberry or the computer is always a lower resolution like 420xsomething. Why is it all of a sudden not letting me take full res pictures when it claims it is in the settings?

I tried taking the picture with each of the settings on and then off and took another and I'm still having the same issue.

Go into camera, hit bb menu button, goto options, change picture size to highest.

I have the same problem now. RIM must have changed the definition of Superfine. The smallest picture I get is 640 x 480 Normal about 12k. The largest 2048 x 1536 Superfine about 650k. All pictures taken without stabilization. I wonder if this is what RIM did to speed up the camera, like reducing the color depth.

Yeah because i was viewing the properties on the phone itself, not on my computer. It says on the options and everything that it is taking a large picture with superfine quality and when I view the image its 480x320. It makes no sense. I've tried messing with every setting to trigger it to go back to taking large images and I cant seem to figure out what is wrong with it.

Do not zoom. The camera in the Storm uses digital zoom not optical zoom. Optical zoom makes objects appear closer by changing the focal length of the lens. Digital zoom makes objects larger by making the pixels larger which results in a lower resolution.

Exactly, not to mention you're also killing the quality of the pic and future zoom/crop ability. Take a pic at normal focal length and if you need to zoom in and crop, do that in post processing. I've taken several pics at full res and then zoomed in and cropped to get the finite info I needed. Had I zoomed in to take the pic, the detail would have been lost... i.e. something like license plates.

I'm saying the actual photo size is stuck at taking a small photo not that the quality is bad or anything. I mean its on the setting to take an extra large photo but when I take a photo under that setting or any other for that matter the photo will still only be 480x620 or something like that and its a tiny photo and I'm not using any zoom at all.

Look at the properties of the photo on the phone. If they are right then, I'll bet you are changing the resolution when you're pulling them off the phone somehow.

In case no one figured it out yet.....

In full resolution, when I emailed myself the pic it get a 640 x 480 photo?

When linking directly to my pc through the usb cable it gives me the full 2048 x 1536 resolution...weird but it worked for me

Emailing the image usually does not reduce quality or size. Sending it via bbm does however. I can agree with the op that it is a software glitch. It started on mine after an update. Along with the picture being a lower res, the options says high res but the picture count was over 1000 for the memory card which shows low res image capture. Now that I redid my os install I have high res images and the count is back to 200+ instead of 1000+ it is not how I transfer images, take them or zoom but rather a software issue.
