I was looking around ebay and saw that they are going for $700 - $800. I don't understand why this is. Do people really not know you can just call VZW and buy one? I think I will buy 10 of these babies if I can push them out for that price. INSANE

Because people are getting them unlocked so they can use them on networks other than VZW

But you can unlock it for free on your own?

There will always be people who aren't "in the know" about something and don't take the time to do their homework. If it's unlocked, then yes people can do it themselves, but they probably don't even realize that it's possible.

They are $500 form VZW. I am not great at math but $500 is less then $800.. right? I still don't get it.

Verizon will only give you a unlock code if your a VZW customer. There are 3 scenario's:

    1. You purchase a Storm as a new customer from Verizon. You call CS and get it unlocked. You cancel your account and keep the phone. Verizon charges you Full retail if you keep the phone and also charges you the ETF since you kept the phone.

    2. You buy it Unlocked on Ebay

    3. Your credit sucks so you have to pay a huge deposit to verizon so your only choice then is option 2.

Ya. My buddy just bought a storm on verizon, full retail, on a month to month contract. He cancelled today and is getting a pro rated amount back from his plan (he got charged for 1 day) and he was successfully able to get the unlock code in that 1 day period. He said that was the best route to take instead of paying the ebay premiums. Funny u mention the high price on ebay. There are some who r selling storms here on crckberry for 700 plus bucks. Seems like the last place I would try and inflate the price of a storm

if iam not mistaken they cost is $499.99 outright, dont know why someone would pay 700-800 on ebay when they can get it from verizon for $500.00, but theres one born every minute!!

Some people are A) rich and B) impatient. Same people who paid $3000 for the PS2 and PS3 when they first came out.

Since Verizon is backordered, eBay is one of the few places that have them "in stock". It's capitalism. Just kinda sucks because my Moto Q broke, so I have no phone until my Storm gets here next week.

True. Some people need it "right now" and will pay the extra. Mine is ordered through verizon and will supposidely ship on the 17th. I can wait. My bold gets the job done.

if you think about it, buying it outright and than paying the etf is 675 plus taxes, so 700 is not really all that inflated, plus a little extra for the "legwork" and 800 really does not seem too crazy

I would not do it, but hey to each their own

But if you pay the 499.99 for the phone full retail and then do month to month like my friend its a better route if you really want the phone. He ended up paying like 5 bucks for that 1 day. Not bad at all.

You don't pay the etf if you cancel within 30 days...
