I've read this tip in the tips and tricks sticky, but I can't find any posts explaining WHY this makes the Storm run faster. Can anybody out there shed some light on this matter? Thanks!
The full theory was that by minimizing the number of icons (both on the home screen and the apps screen) the OS would use less resources for drawing the screen and would transition from Portrait to Landscape or from the Home Screen to the App screen faster. Also, if you do use folders to consolidate your icons and hide icons you don't use, it will make you faster at finding things.
I never noticed that it made anything "faster", but I always set my home screen to one row so the wall paper wouldn't be covered, and my App screen is 16 icons so that I don't have to scroll (in portrait, anyway).
