Imagine total SIM FREEDOM. Phones from carriers are unlocked, can be used anywhere in the world without having to be outrageous minute, text, and data rates while overseas or even in Canada. Having a world standard, including bands, would be wonderful. Imagine a global LTE band that would be employed everywhere. Not like WiMax, while easier to deploy and already out in Baltimore, there will be more WiMax bands than there are WCDMA.

Never thought I'd disagree with you CX, but there's a first time for everything. I think competition is good. Anything you can do I can do better type stuff. It perpetuates technology getting better and better (or at least faster and farther etc). I think if we had more options we might actually have better results. Granted sometimes there's just one that is ultimately better or more well received (I was an HD-DVD die hard RIP) but I haven't really seen that in the CDMA/GSM battle. I see a lot of people who like thier CDMA for speed and stablility and a lot of people for GSM and its ability to do voice AND data simultaneously among other reasons. However, in light of the fact that VZW is jumping ship to GSM based LTE, I guess you would only have Sprint and US Cellular as your major players for CDMA and I don't know that either of them could carry the load. Maybe if they joined forces. THen we'd have 3 major GSM carriers and only 1 option for CDMA. I don't know enough about the tech behind LTE and 4G CDMA (is there one?) to know if one works better than another. If there is a 4G CDMA would it be EVDV where you could do both at the same time? And perhaps it's just too costly to create? Just thinking not so out loud here. But at the core of my thought is: Competition creates Better service.
