I would say its a possibility...probably not with the storm but upcoming blackberry products may have it...my reasoning is that the omnia has wifi built in...if their going to let the omnia carry wifi then there could be a possibility that some future blackberry products may wifi enabled.
Any chance tha we could buy the new storm coming out on the Rogers network and use it on Verizon in the states and still get the normal software updates that the 9530 gets?

Negative... The 9520 is a GSM phone while the 9530 is CDMA
I see - a "world phone" is classified as one that can operate in all four GSM frequency bands and is not necessarily based solely on the ability to work in CDMA as well.

That's incorrect as well because the 8830 is a World Phone and only has two GSM frequencies enabled.

People screw this up constantly. It only has two GSM frequencies because it also operates on North America's CDMA networks. You're forced to whichever carrier has it in its ESN database (Sprint or Verizon) in North America. You're not roaming on AT&T or T-Mobile USA with the 8830 as it lacks both GSM 850 and GSM 1900.
World phone basically implies that a device can be used on the 6 populated continents. If it's GSM only, it could possibly get by two two frequency bands (say GSM 850 or 1900 with GSM 900 or 1800), but it's likely to encounter coverage issues in some parts of the world. To my knowledge world phones have all had at least 3 GSM bands (GSM 900/1800/1900) and newer ones have the younger GSM 850 as well.
To date there have only been a handful of device that operate both N.A. CDMA and internationally via GSM. I don't think there have been many if at all that were CDMA capable and quad-band GSM like the Storm, let alone EVDO capable and WCDMA 2100 for international 3G.
