Any insurance goes through Asurion. (I believe that's the name)
You can do it all online. Go to the VZW website and look around there will be a link to the companies website. Fill out the forms and they will send you a replacement. Also, if you want you can also suspend service temporarily on your phone by calling VZW. But Asurion sends out phones quickly. I'm also pretty sure that if you just report it broken, you will have to return the broken device. I'd report it stolen, and use your old one for parts, but that's all up to you. If you report it stolen however you would never be able to use that phone on their network. Is that the Storm?
- Yes.
Why not get an iPhone?
- Cause I'm not stupid.

I have reported many phones lost. Just make sure you don't use the phone from when you said it was lost until you get the new one. The replacement phone will cost you $50 and you can get it next day. The website is phoneclaim.com. The reason I always say lost is b/c people do lose and FIND things, so if any probs were to ever arise I 'd just say I found old phone. Ive been told before with broken ones you have to return them or they will charge. I HAVE NEVER returned a phone. I feel if you pay for it you pay for it. If they want the phone back they should buy it back.
They will tell you return or they will charge, but out of 3-4 times of being told that, I still have never been charged for a phone I kept. Also, if you are cool with one of the reps, find some reason other than cracks to return and you might get a new one without the insurance claim.
Keep in mind you are only allowed 2 claims in a 12 month period. After the second claim they will drop your insurance and unless you pick it back up afetr 12 month period you will be screwed until you upgrade phone.BLACKBERRY STORM 9530

So, sometime in the next two years, my wife and I can both say our phones were stolen/lost, and get a replacement phone (with an updated/upgraded Storm)? Nice!
This way, we'd both have additional (hopefully better working) phones, and we'd each now have a video/music/photo player... Sweet! - 04-19-2009, 09:30 AM #7
You and your wife will definately get refrubs from a year ago 8-)

The guy at the Verizon store told me to file a claim once a year regardless if I need to or not, just to make the insurance worth what you pay for it.
And I do. Once a year I find something wrong with my phone and get a replacement. I always send the "broken" phone back though. - 04-19-2009, 09:59 AM #9
The website for a phone claim through Asurion (VZW) is Welcome To Asurion's Online Resource Center or phoneclaim.com
BTW - I just used this service last week and got a brand new Storm 9530 (not refurbished).Last edited by kmss1; 04-19-2009 at 10:02 AM.

that is not tru i did a insuance claim with asurian and i told them it fell off my desk while moving some paper around. but any way they sent me a brand new one not a refurb. it came in the blackberry box from verizon sealed up with brand new accessories

seems like i'm not the only one who dropped my storm last night. was just about to start a thread.
so you guys are sure asurion covers 'accidental damage' because there is no other way to explain what happened to my phone. basically small crack in lower left corner of screen and a triangle shaped piece of black plastic in the "screen gap" at the bottom broke off. phone is still perfectly functional. will they cover this?
and on the same note - this is still my storm from release date and my click / everything was great. are we noticing newer released storms to be of better or just more consistent quality? and should i roll back the software before i send this in? (i'm on .122) i would assume that doesn't matter b/c i'm not complaining of a software related issue. - 04-19-2009, 11:01 AM #15They stole my storm

if you have tec insurance through verizon, it pretty much covers everything, as far as damage, lost or stolen, you would have to file a claim with Asurion, pay a 50 dollar deductible, and you are only allowed 2 replacements within a 12month period, after your 2nd replacement within 12 months, your insurance coverage is dropped

It covers accidental damage, what would be the point otherwise? You're good!

You right. Insurance is a fraud. You pay $5 a month for the insurance plus $50 if you use it.
5 x 12 = $60
Claim = $50
-------------
$110 total if you use it your first year. Most don't. So in a two year contract you will spend $120 just for insurance on your phone. $170 if you use your insurance.
Just buy a Otterbox for around $50 and use the savings on a nice dinner. Of course, i can afford to buy a new phone if needed so my view is a little narrow. - 04-19-2009, 11:34 AM #19Mike

LOL @ Darth...Folks just don't know how it works. I get a lot of folks that complain as to why they have to pay $5.99 a month for insurance and then pay $50 to file a claim. I just tell them it works just like car, home, life or health insurance. So in my opinion, insurance is not a fruad it's a safety net that you may or may not use.

thank god i never had to use my insurance for any reason, but it offers the comfort that if something happend to my phone i can get another one without paying full retail price. i at this point cant throw down that kind of money for a new device so the 5 or so bucks a month isnt bad for me, but depends on your situation if you can afford to throw down money for a FRP phone than why bother with the insurance.
