Or send it has a MMS. I believe you have 1000char. But you need to make sure that the phone you are sending it to can accept MMS's.

it is annoying. my old phone would just make it into a second message as well. often you don't know you are going to exceed the number of characters but do anyway, so the email suggestion kind of falls flat. as far as i know the other bbs besides the pearl have the same problem. i just send the first when it cuts me off and continue writing in a new message.

It's annoying because with regular Verizon phones you could send texts as long as you wanted to other Verizon customers, now I don't even have that option.

I keep seeing people reply with "send it as an email." If I knew the person was sitting at a computer & could access their email I would....but most of the time if I'm sending a text to someone it's because they aren't able to access email at that point.

yep. I send MMS to verizon people. but it sucks when you reply to a SMS & get cut off at 160. What an oversight by RIM!

I would think that would be a quick sw fix?

I dont like calling my ex about my kid. Id rather text its less hassle. So calling doesnt always work either.

Weird though, my storm accepts SMS over 160

Im sure there is a reason why they made the SMS limit like that. Just bare with it, or get a phone that sends longer messages. Like Mike Said, its a tiny Netbook damn it! LOL

There is an app called beyond160. This issue has been talked about and that option has been presented many times before.
You can find it in the app store.
No use complaining since its been like that since the phone came out

Other carriers may circumvent the limit and other phones may have included programming to achieve this as well.

There are apps available for the Storm to do this as well.

Thanks for this thread-I am going to go look into that app too because I totally understand where you are coming from with the 160 thing. I loved that sending to other Verizon it would just break into 2 messages. It always cut off on non-verizon and seeing the 160 characters is handy for that but I do prefer the way it was on my reg phone. But I guess that is what I get for going BB!

I had the same problem...always needing more room to text. Beyond 160 is an AWESOME app!! Don't let anyone give you a hard time about it, cuz simply put....Beyond 160 is a TOP selling app!! It wouldn't be if only a few ppl typed more than the 160 character limit!!
    Happy Texting!!

There's also LMS that's supposed to work in the native SMS screen although its still in beta. I couldn't get it to work on my phone though, although I've heard it works for others.
