two drops of water.. Non responsive screen.. Help?
- Hey guys. My screen got like 2 drops of water on it from an overhang on my house while i was walking in. Now the screen is completely unresponsive. i have tried a battery pull and that didnt work. took battery out for like 10 minutes.. Same result. Any ideas? I got some important text msgs to read and i cant dial any numbers to call out. Any Help is greatly appreciated, i plan on getting a replacement phone since i doubt water got inside, i was able to just wipe the waer off the screen. Thanks in advance.
Also, there was another thread about 1 drop of water and dead storm. I wonder if this has to do with the way the screen is sealed. No dust issues but i do have light seapage.02-12-09 01:34 AMLike 0 - i didnt see any fog at all. It was weird, i got it to briefly respond to the bottom row on the screen but have been unable to replicate for hours. Its frustrating to see icons for mesages that you have no way to access!02-12-09 02:27 AMLike 0
- this happens to me too. The screen is not messed up bc u didnt spill enough water. However, the screen is not picking up the heat from your finger. I think the water messes up where the touch part of the screen can sense for a little. The same happens in the extreme cold because of the screen and your cold fingers.02-12-09 03:02 AMLike 0
- I had this happen to me while I was outside. After the screen got a couple of drops on it, it would not respond until it had an obnoxious amount of time to dry. I don't know much about the specific technology involved in this touch screen but I assume that something about water on the screen makes it unable to recognize your finger. It would be great if someone who knows something about this could comment.02-12-09 03:06 AMLike 0

Although most of the USA is experiencing cold weather, sweat can build up when the phone ia near your ear. I actually experienced the same issue when I took a slightly moist cloth and wiped the phone. It took about 12-14 hours to begin to work properly.. Don't be so quick to judge next time unless/until you have all the facts

- Something similar happened to me but not sure if due to water. 2 days after I got my first storm I went to my friends house, opened my car door and dropped my storm into the snow bank beside the car. It was hard snow and it just sat on the top, and only had a little snow on the battery door but also over the USB port, was barely any at all, nothing I would ever worry about. 2 minutes later I get into his house, screen doesn't respond. I can highlight things, click contacts and so on and it lights up blue, but physically clicking down did nothing. Battery pull, left it out overnight, hairdryer everything nothing worked. I kid you not 48 hours later it started working again, but I took it to Telus the next day to replace it because the whole phone was acting up from day one. Not sure if it's due to the water or not, I HIGHLY doubt it though as again it didn't come near the screen and was so little that you probably wouldn't even notice that much snow if it touched your hand. Either way though that's what happened with me.
When you say unresponsive though do you mean nothing happens, or if you click/touch the screen does the icons highlight and so on, just not register the click? My screen was fine, it would show incoming calls, incoming texts, email etc, but click Messages and it would just ligjt up blue and never go into it.02-12-09 12:20 PMLike 0 - I noticed when I put a new screen protector on my storm, there are dots on the screen in a grid formation. I wonder if that is how the moisture got in or how the screen detects your finger. I would let it dry out for a few hours. A couple of drops shouldn't fry your phone. Like someone said what if it was sweat. I live in AZ and we sweat here. Even in winter LOL02-12-09 01:18 PMLike 0
- Yeah so the VZW store wont swap out the phne because i bought it at best buy, and best buy wont swap it because i already swapped the phone twice due to dead pixels. They said i have 30 days from my original phone purchase, even though i got this on on 1/15/09 after swapping another for dead pixels. Ended up calling verizon back and they said they will honor the return and to go pickup my new storm in the morning at the local store. Stinks for BB since while i was there i planned on spending my tax returns on a new tv, They shouldve swapped the phone! Oh well, they have a letter to corporate.
Back on topic, sorry had to rant, it has been 24 hours now and still unresponsive. it will every now and then recognize a touch, but not register anywhere near my finger. But this really bothers me, i think this is due to the screen not being sealed or whatever, cuz i have a lot of light seapage right where the drop hit.
hey DMG, I Need you to write me an UMBRELLA APP!!!!02-12-09 10:03 PMLike 0 - okay, I'm having the exact same problem right now. It wouldn't register anything all morning, now it's registering some touches...but not many. I didn't get water on it though....I do use a slightly damp alcohol pad to clean the front off, but not enough to ever cause a problem in the past....I don't know what to do!
I've been doing hard & soft resets all day...
and now it's doing other weird stuff...grrrr.02-12-09 10:33 PMLike 0 - hmm.. I heard from the VZW rep that there are a bunch of recalls comming for the storm. Who knows how much that hold up, but definately something wrong here. Maybe u need an umbrella app too for when you clean the phone. Best of luck with yours!02-12-09 10:43 PMLike 0
