Trying to get the most out of my Storm...
- I browse this forum all the time and the help I have received here has enhanced my BB experience more than I could have thought possible. Everyone here has been really helpful.
Now having said that I was wondering if some nice person who's smarter that me (that shouldn't take long to find) would mind explaining to me this tethering thing, specifically tethering to a GPS. I own a Storm 9530 through Verizon and a TomTom One XL.
What would tethering do for me and how would I go about doing it? In all of the searches I found bluetooth involved so do I need that?
Thanks in advance for breaking it down in its simplist form...01-28-09 07:05 PMLike 0 - The Storm has GPS built into it. You can go to Options > Advanced > GPS and make sure Data Source is Device GPS and Services is Location On. It should work flawlessly with BB Maps (should already be under Applications on your device). VZ NAv will also give turn by turn but it's $10/month. There's also Nav4All (see OTA Apps Thread) and some others including Garmin Mobile that all work on the device
do you have any specific need to tether for GPS use?Last edited by alan8385; 01-28-09 at 07:15 PM.

I'm not sure... I was asking b/c I didn't know whay someone would attempt to do it. I just stumbled onto this thread:

and I became curious. Since I really don't even know what tethering means, I wanted to know what the advantages are to doing this. Since I own a Storm and TomTom, I thought I should look into it.
Thanks for the quick reply and any further help.01-28-09 07:20 PMLike 0 - Ah, ok. THAT, I'm not familiar with. That looks to be connecting the Storm to the TomTom and using the Storm to get traffic information off the internet and putting it on the TomTom so you can get live Traffic info while traveling (wrecks, backed up roads, quicker routes, etc)
tethering simply means connecting your device to another peripheral like a GPS or laptop or headset via cable or bluetooth.01-28-09 07:27 PMLike 0 - The primary use for tethering is to get a moderately high speed internet connection on a laptop using the phone as a modem. I use the Storm connected to a wireless router at my weekend home to put my laptop and any guests' laptops online. It works great. I get about 400-500K down and 700K up.01-29-09 07:07 AMLike 0

Could you explain how to do this?01-29-09 07:09 AMLike 0
