Hey to all the BlackBerry users out there!
I have a Storm (9530) running on the MTS (Manitoba Telephone System) service and recently picked up a brand new Cradlepoint PHS300 on eBay ($49.99!!) so I could link it with my new Motorola Xoom. I wanted to take advantage of my Unlimited Data Plan…
After I received it, I quickly discovered that while it would connect to my Motorola Xoom, I had no WAN connection…
I called tech support at Cradlepoint and as soon as I mentioned MTS, they wanted nothing to do with me!!
So then I consulted Crackberry and ran some searches and found some interesting info/ideas, but nothing concrete.
So the next step was to talk to MTS. It turns out my BB’s Unlimited Data Plan was “locked” to just the phone… No problem all they would have to do is sell me a usage-based plan and unlock the data side of things. For a 1Gb plan that would add an additional $15.00 to my cell phone plan
So, I thought I was making some progress, and I was to a degree I guess, however, still no-joy for a WAN connection…
Next stop was talking to MTS’s Tech Support. To which I got the “standard” reply that this product (the PHS 300) was not supported, but they would at least try to give me a hand with it (that alone kind of shocked me I must admit!!). One of the things that they found for me (and I had already read this on this Forum) was that many BB users were having “issues” with the PHS300 and Blackberry’s OS Ver.5.
So, the first thing to do was to down grade to ver 4.7. OK, that was done, connected up the PHS300 to the BB, but still no-joy! At this point, MTS said “…well, we gave it a try. Good luck!” and that ended the tech support session…
Then, I remembered reading a post here about a member going into the PHS300 configuration utility and the Modem Settings and entering his Password… I started to get that funny feeling, “could it be that simple?” I do have my phone locked with a password.
So, I went into the PHS’s Modem Settings and entered my password and BOOM! I was in!!!
Now here is my dilemma… I am one that always says “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
So, here is my question…
I am now running with the downgraded version of the BB OS (4.7.0.203) and I am wondering if I could go back to ver 5 (or higher if a newer version comes along) now that my Cradlepoint is now setup right.
Has there been anyone running the Storm with ver 5.X and the PHS300 and not having any issues?
Any info would be great!!
