How do you select multiple messages at a time so you can delete them? Is there an "erase all" feature?

click with one finger on one and then while highlighting that one click another one and viola.

There is a delete prior option (need to expnad to "full menu" to see it.) Click on the date field and you can delete all prior messages.

Or, use two fingers as was suggested.
