What does Automatically Dim Backlight do?

Auto dim dims the backlight in darker settings and brightens the screen in brighter conditios. It helps save battery life.

I had this problem as well. It happened as soon as Verizon pushed out slacker coincidently. Also, my LED stopped working at the same time. I turned off the auto dim feature and after about a day or so changed it back and the problem seemed to resolve itself. Nothing else worked. I must have done 5 battery pulls. The only thing was the autodim feature.
