Something that just started happening. Voice Activated Dialing was working fine. Then it went haywire yesterday and I haven't been able to get it working right, consistently, since. Now I might be able to use it once after a battery pull, then after that it hangs on "Initializing, please wait..."

Is there any way to delete and restore just the vad module without wiping the phone?

Look at freeing up memory thread for BB and it will give you directions to remove VAD.
