Here's what I want to know:

What is the difference between a module and an application?

When you are on that screen and you hit BB Menu and then select, Edit Default Permissions,
- a. Is that setting the permissions only for the currently selected application
- b. What do the three options in there do (connections, interactions, user data)?

Modules are parts of an app
Yes it is for the highlighted app
Three options are exactly that do you want the app to access those portions of the phone
Like voice dial it needs to access user data I.e. Contacts
Browser needs to access connections
Etc..
