No data service available on blackberry 9530

I live in Trinidad and I bought a blackberry storm 9530 in New York. The phone was unlocked and my sim card works well in the phone. The phone works very well as well. I applied for internet service from my carrier, BMOBILE, and the 'edge' did not turn to 'EDGE'. When I called my internet provider, they said the problem is with the phone. I am not getting internet access. A friend told me that the phone may need to be configured. I do not know much of this. Can someone please help me. The internet service is active on my sim card but my phone is not accepting it. Please help. Nikita.

It will turn to EDGE once the blackberry registers on the RIM network, providing you have a Blackberry data plan. A regular data plan will not change the case. As far as the internet goes, even "edge" indicates you are connected to the internet.
