    hello!
what can i do to switch my phone to gsm, cause when i turn it on, its says gsm, but then it changes to edge, and after a few hours it changes to gprs, i can't select 1XEV , cause my carrier doesn't supports it.

i've been told that if i have my phone on edge or on gprs while my carrier is gsm, the battery will drain faster, is this true?

    Greetings

not necessarily. gsm is a voice transmission technology. GRPS/EDGE are data transmission. it is okay to have GPRS/EDGE That is unless you do not want any data services. The only difference it could make for battery life is if you are in an area with poor service. Your phone may try to search for EDGE, while GPRS is all that's available.
