Iphone V. Storm-Deciding which one to Get
- I am a newbie who has been religiously following the storm threads for a while now as I have tried to learn as much as possible about the Storm. (Please dont bash on me for being my first post). I am a verizon Blackberry Pearl user and am anxious to move to either the Storm or switch carriers and get an Ipone. I wont revisit the differences between the specs of the two phones as they have been discussed at length already. I need a phone for business use to view email throughout the day and reply to a few emails here and there when needing to reply while not in the office. I also need it for personal use to surf the web, take photos, etc. While Verizon has excellent coverage in my area, I have friends with ATT that get good coverage as well so coverage isnt a factor for me.
Heres my take on the two phones:
Iphone:
1. Appearance: Gorgeous phone inside and out with beautiful screen and interface.
2. Enjoyable Experience to use/Touchscreen: I have played around with this phone quite a bit and just find myself enjoying using it. The phone itself is so easy to use.
3. Web usage: I find surfing the web to be very enjoyable
4. Data Entry: I hate the keyboard. I find that I just miss the keys too many times, though after the third time using it I make less mistakes. I have doubts whether this issue alone would drive me nuts.
Storm:
1. Appearance: Attractive but not a thing of beauty like the Iphone.
2. Touchscreen: The touchscreen interface also has me concerned that it will simply not be as easy and enjoyable to use. It seems that the storm will really operate with software similar to other Blackberrys. While this is not bad, it is not as enjoyable to use as the Iphone. I do however have reservations about having to click for every action needed versus just tapping.
3. Web: I am concerned that the web experience will fall short of the Iphone.
4. Data Entry: I expect that the typing experience will blow away the Iphone. This reason alone has me wondering if I should even consider the Iphone. However, I am not a heavy emailer on my phone (2-3 emails a day from the phone).
5. Better specs/features: Better camera, video, better email experience, removable battery and storage.
I really want to stay with Verizon and get the Storm, but just cant get over how much I enjoy using the Iphone every time I try it.
So with that long set up, my question is whether anyone might have more experience with the Iphone or take on the Storm that could give me more feedback of any other pros or cons in comparing the two phones.10-30-08 12:04 AMLike 0 - to be honest, i am an avid fan of the iphone, im a big Fanboy of mac, and i love the iPhone, i have the ipod touch, and i loved it the first 2 weeks i had it, then the fun factor just faded away and now im just content with it, not bored, content. the storm on the other hand, just seems like a great phone. The only thing that puts me on the fence between the iphone and the storm, is that apples application store, really blows away anything its catagory, amazing array of apps that span from doing the smallest things to the biggest things, but the choice is up to you, i am personally going to get the storm because of Verizons 3G network being the best, but slowly and surely AT&T's network will get better so if verizon doesn't get the iphone within the next 5 years, i will be going to AT&T or whatever apple decides to use because i just love the fact of how the iphone works so integrated with MOBILEME which i have and my MACBOOK PRO 17" all my calender and address book data as well as pictures and videos and not to mention full itunes integration its just great.10-30-08 12:12 AMLike 0

Oftentimes while using the iPod it would just turn off on it's own (iPod crashed). I would blame this on corrupted music files, but I purchase all of my music off iTunes, so I know that's not the case. In addition to that, Safari froze and crashed a lot also, even when using mobile sites. I also found myself restoring the phone a lot simply because it wasn't acting right.
And finally, it was annoying when someone sent me a MMS and I had to use a weird ID and password to view the picture on some website... especially when there was no copy/paste and it was tough to remember those codes.. I usually had to grab a pen and write them down if I wasn't near a computer and wanted to see the pic on my phone)... but other than that...whenever I was bored it was great to just pull it (the phone ) out my pocket and start playing with it (the phone.. )
As for the Storm, I haven't gotten to use one of those yet, unfortunately. But other than BGR reviews, everything seems to look pretty good about it. I'm probably going to get uber-bashed here, but if the iPhone were on Verizon I'd probably get that over the Storm... but of course I've never owned a Blackberry so that's also just picking the "evil I know" ... if I've used a Blackberry enough, I might say otherwise.
As for you, you should totally get the Storm. It's gonna pwn the iPhone... hahaha
EDIT: I should also note that I use a Mac, and it was also great having the easy sync with iCal, Address Book, iTunes, and iPhoto.. that made life easy...
EDIT Again: *accidentally said iChat, meant iCal* *fixed*Last edited by RobUM2011; 10-30-08 at 12:28 AM.

- Here's a new idea. Why don't you wait to upgrade until the storm is out. Then you go down to the store and fiddle around with the storm for some real hands on experience. Then go back and try the iphone the same day. once you've figured out which one you prefer to handle/use... go with that one?
I'm not sure how our non-use of a storm and some with use of an iphone will help your personal opinion on which phone to get. It is going to come down to what you want, like the feel of, find easy enough to use, etc. Not the people on the web.
-Rik10-30-08 12:17 AMLike 0 - Gee Rikter, why didn't I think of that?
Honestly, it is these kinds of negative posts that is the reason I haven't posted before. Isn't the whole point of this forum to have some friendly dialogue to discuss the various issues. There have been thousands of posts to debate and discuss the various issues about the Storm even though it isn't out yet. If the attitude is simply going to be "don't post questions on issues until the Storm comes out" then this forum might as well shut down.
Yes I certainly will be trying out the Storm before making the decision.10-30-08 12:25 AMLike 0 - 10-30-08 12:56 AMLike 0
- I probably won't consider the Bold as I like the touchscreen concept and larger screen size. I love my Pearl and am sure the Bold will be better but find myself wanting a large touchscreen screen like the Iphone or Storm, especially for web use. I will likely get the iphone if the Storm doesn't suit me.10-30-08 01:20 AMLike 0

But one thing the iPhone is currently not solid on is ITS MAIN PURPOSE
communication
no true push email you can fetch accounts but its not push ... so basically you can set the phone to grab your email every 15 minutes 30 minutes or a hour or you can set it so you get your mail manually.... no push is a bummer even though they advertised PUSH EMAIL!
Also third party apps cant run in the background on the current software.... there is supposed to be something in the works well... this effects communication because if you end up using something like instant messengers..... if you leave the app for like a phone call or whatever it logs out "some applications keep your account active so that when you log back in you get your messages but when the app closes you lose notifications"
Once again none if this might be a deal breaker but I will say that blackberrys definetly have communication nailed down..
The iphone is very fun and has alot of cool things ... but in the end there is a fine line between fun and productivity...
dont flame me this isnt a iphone bash anyone who owns the thing knows it has flaws
and one last word you cant change ur own battery in the iphone... this still baffled me on why they chose that idea.. but whatever I use my iphone its nice but I cant say im not interested in the storm..10-30-08 06:36 AMLike 0 - But one thing the iPhone is currently not solid on is ITS MAIN PURPOSE
