Hi guys, I am a cellphone fanatic, (had many SE's, nokias, etc) and I got offered a BB Storm for 100$ (couldn't refuse it lol). However, this is my first Blackberry and I need a 101 class on how BBs work.

I've been reading many of your threads and wanted to understand what is the removing battery for? I seem to see everyone take out their BB skins/protection in order to remove the battery and reput it. why so? is it a must?

Also, can someone give me a step by step on things to do first when i receive the storm? (ie: download/update/ whatever)

and in order to catch up with you guys, can anyone briefly tell me what applications i should or MUST download? I am with Rogers, and am planning to get a BB data plan. However, i don't intend to use data much, just for emails and thats it. I want to be aware of the latest applications/software etc.

what are the cool applications/games (that don't need the use of data) i should download in order to have fun with my storm?

thanks in advance, i hope you guys will quickly let me love BBs

If you haven't already, here is the BlackBerry 101 How-To Lecture Series.

As already suggested, you can install QuickPull (Free) to do your battery pulls or you can install MeterBerry ($2.95) which will not only allow you to do a battery pull but will also track your memory and battery usage. The reason for a battery pull is to restore your app memory, to clear files left over from either an app or OS installation or for when the device becomes unresponsive.

The first thing you should do is get familiar with the device and DM before attempting the OS update. This will help you with any troubleshooting that may need to be done. Next, follow the steps in these threads for the first things you should do with a new device.

I fixed the links in my previous post. Sometimes it is hard to post them with wap.

Here are a couple links that contain OTA links for apps and games for the storm.

idk about others, but when i get a new toy(or a BB lol) I scan the manual to see wat programs it has and how to turn it on, and then the rest is just trail and error. I have more fun exploring than reading and knowing.

No i'm not attacking ur decision/choices so don't take it as that.

Same here. Anytime I get some new technical toy, i tend to throw the manual by the box and start playing. Usually by end of day (and an annoyed girlfriend) I get the hang of things. Except for with my storm... My exploring/playing has been going on for about 3 months or so and counting.... lol
