    Hey guys,

So today I was in class typing on my Berry and I was just picturing typing on the blue glowing keyboard of the Storm. Then something hit me...I was having trouble picturing typing on it! I mean, it has been described to us dozens of times already, but I still cannot picture it! One recent review said it feels like they are separate keys even though the screen is one big button. That just confused me even more!
I played around with my friends LG Dare today and I gotta say, the keyboard on that thing is pretty bad. I made 10x the mistakes on the Dare than on an iPhone. The vibrate, haptic feedback is just a battery waster. I sat there, holding her phone, pondering how RIM could actually pull it off.
So now I sit, staring at my Curve and my iPod touch wondering, "What will it feel li-" Wait...oh my God...DAMN YOU VERIZON!!!!! They know we are going crazy wondering! How can it feel like REAL TYPING?!? Its a sheet of glass that goes up and down!! GAHHHH!!!

So I think the wait has finally gotten to me.

Anyone else thinking this way about the Storm? Are you having trouble picturing what the typing will feel like?

***DISCLAIMER TO NEW POSTERS***: I am extremely excited about the Storm and am not ragging on it in any way. I think the other "Storm-thread Vets" can vouch for me

Nope. I think touch/sliding on my Q's screen is normal.

Ha, I did the exact same thing.

And no, this is absolutely not normal.

I think the only reason they mention seperate keys is because they actually left space in between the keys so there is less chance of a mistake, considering its one big *** button. But i think its pretty cool and its the latest BB from verizon so coming from someone who isnt using a BB right now i will be getting it lol

I read somewhere that typing on the Storm felt like pushing down on a mouse button. So the other night I picked up my mouse in my two hands and started pressing the buttons with my thumb just to see what it would feel like.

I guess I'm somewhat lucky. I use the touchscreen on my Glimmer to text and not the actually number pad. It took awhile but i'm pretty quick with it, but it helps that it has the heptic feedback too.
The only downside is that the end key is right below the space key and there isn't much room between buttons. I have found myself many of times typing so fast that I don't realize i've hit the end button until the confirmation window comes up as i'm going to type the next letter and hit the "yes" on accident.......to which I cuss myself and say "I wouldn't have this problem if I had a storm!"

This is actually a pretty interesting idea. Though, I dont think the Storm screen will be as soft and clickable as a regular mouse button (probably will be more like the new Macbooks), it still gives you a good idea of what it will be like.

I tried holding my mouse in the prayer position and clicked the button rapidly with both of my thumbs. I was actually very surprised to find that I could get discrete button presses even though I was going very fast.

My primary concern with the Storm screen was an issue that Kevin touched on: the rolling issue. Usually, with regular qwerty keyboards you are often typing the next letter in the sequence before you are even done pressing the prior letter. But when testing on the mouse, it only jammed up when I was going faster than I could probably even type on my Curve.

This is getting sad. Im practice typing on my mouse.

I completely disagree. Typing on the full qwerty keyboard on the dare was much easier than on my iphone. The dare does qwerty in landscape mode on every app, unlike the fruit phone, and the touchscreen was pretty good and responsive. It wasn't Iphone responsive, but still good, and the keyboard was easier to type on to me. I expect the storm's to be even better.

Wait. You're still alive?! I expected you to be in a dungeon somewhere tortured after what you put us through.

I've used both the iPhone and the Dare and I'd have to agree that I had an easier time typing on the Dare than the iPhone. Couldn't type on the iPhone for the life of me. I assume it takes getting used to. From all the reviews I've read, and pictures I've seen, it seems as if the Storm's keyboard is very spacious. I still can't exactly picture typing on it though.

I hope at least Demo units pop up in stores soon. I was in a Tmo store playing with an actual G1 two weeks ago. Verizon needs to start stepping up their marketing, because the keyboard is one of its most important features and they need people to get hands on time with it.

haha, I think the majority will be please with the keyboard of the Storm. Not everyone, but most. Just from reviews, it may take a little getting used too, thus the reason why you can't picture typing on it. However, the reviews say that it is "genius", "great", "the best in the market".

This has got me thinking; will Verizon have dedicated demo models in their stores prior to a release date? In other words, come in to try one out before you can actually buy one? It's a pretty stupid idea (if they have them, just sell them) but it would be cool to get your hands on one early. That might only hype it even more because word of mouth is very powerful in marketing. Or they could pull a "Bold" move (pun intended) and do a short pre-release sale at a jacked up price to get a few thousand models out almost like a test release. I'd hope they pick a city other than new york since they got Bolds before anyone else in the US. Just random thoughts with no rumors behind them. What do you guys think?

I agree. Up to three weeks prior to the Tmobile G1 launch, there were actual working phones in stores and the sales reps were so enthusiastic to show it to customers. I was in there trying to play with one and saw 5 customers that were in there looking to upgrade or get new contracts walk out the door saying they are going to wait for the G1.

Now, I'm sure Verizon knows what they are doing but, the G1's launch was very smooth: A press conference, a release date given at that press conference, a website FULL of information, pre-orders and the product launch, on time, a month later. Why VZW and RIM are not following this strategy, beats me, I'm not a marketing major.

However, I think it would indeed be nice if actual Storms were available to use before we can buy it and people actually knew when they can get their hands on one, unless Verizon has some huge, grandiose, scheme for launch day.

The sticking point for me WAS going to be typing on the phone. Prior to my Curve I owned a UTS6700 and the screen was nice but there is no way i could ever type on it. I also played with a few of our touch only phones here at work and there was no way i was going to give up my physical keyboard.

I played with a prerelease Storm about 2wks ago and I will say its nice. All the thinking about hating touch screens to type on are out the window. It has the feel of a physical keyboard because of the pushing in of the screen. Its very responsive and the keys are a good distance apart. I don't think the experiance can be accurately described.
I even noticed when just using the phone I was reverting back to my old touch screen ways of selecting objects. It was like the phone was mocking me. HEY you ***** push my screen in.... You know you wanna...

I will be getting a storm.

Post questions and I'll try to get them answered during my Storm training here in a few hours.
