Is there another way to reposition the cursor while typing other than trying to find the correct spot with your finger?

Sure. Just hold (not click) your finger on top of the blue text bar thing. Then after a second or two you can slide it down and you will see a white box. then just slide your finger to where you want it to go.

You can hold you finger anywhere on the screen and when the blue cursor turns white you can move it around so that you don't have to be so precise on your initial click.
