I was very surprised that RIM did not put a lanyard hole/connection on the Storm. After a day of research on how to do it I decided to study the phone's design and came up with a fairly simple and non-destructive way to do it.
Solution: I drilled two small holes very close together in the top left (SIDE) of the metal back cover to pass the lanyard cord through. It works perfectly and it's very secure because of the way the cover fits so securely.
You have to put the holes near the top right or left because that is the only area where there is enough space on the side between the cover and the battery so as not to interfere with the lanyard cord.
Call me crazy... but I'm pretty sure the holes were drilled while the cover was off the phone to prevent damaging it. So more of a clever way of getting what they want than brave.
Nope, seems the OP drilled from the inside out and then sanded the outside down because of the burrs it left behind.... inturn sanding away the black off as well. Looks bad.
Yes, that's true, but a little touch up with black paint fixed it. The problem is that it's nearly impossible to drill into the cover from the outside, PLUS, I'd rather have a little discoloring on the case over a dropped, scratched or busted Storm. I can always buy a new cover for a few bucks. Jim
to the op.... you really didnt have to drill a hole in your phone's battery cover i posted a video on my youtube channel you can check it out if you'd like

Seems weird and unnecessary to me, should have been "Why I put a Lanyard on my Storm" cuz I don't get it. I don't mean to sound rude, I suppose it's something you felt comfortable with, and probably necessary for you. Me...I wouldn't have done it.

Charming.
Nice way of adding a lanyard without any modifications.
