I am having trouble figuring out how to highlight multiple messages so that i could mark them all has opened or unopen. i used to do this with my 8900 any tips?

Touch the 1st one, Not press down. Then while still touching the 1st one touch the last one you want.

you can also tap the date and delete or marked all open prior to that date from the menu.

yes. use the directions above to highlight the first few and then you can swipe to scroll down. as you scroll, just keep tapping to extend the highlighted area. perhaps a bit tricky but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine.
