Ok Finally got my unlocked storm yesterday, I had bought it on ebay, So was looking at setting up BIS on my local provider and it said the PIN and IMEI are already registered. I panic do a bit of research and panic more as i see unless this is deactivated I have a useless blackberry. I email seller asking her to call verizon and get it deregistered. This is the response i get

"unfortunately i am not able to deregister the BIS account. That phone does not work on the Verizon network anymore and there is no way for me to contact anyone about deregistering the BIS account because the phone is not an active phone on my account anymore."

Im like WTF, based on what i read about the unregistering thing it doesnt matter if service is terminated once the company record shows that person having had BIS setup they can unregister it, Correct? Someone please tell me this seller is just misinformed and that Im not just **** outta luck

You most likely are SOL...Whether she is misinformed or not, she doesn't seem willing to help you out. And VZW really can't do anything for her if she isn't their customer anymore. This is one of the BIG problems w/ using unlocked equipment. If the phone isn't on it's native provider, your new provider can't do anything for since they don't make the phone...

Call Verizon support. Ask to speak with a Blackberry specialist or supervisor and calmly explain the situation to them. If you have the name of the person who you bought the phone from, you can give them that as well. If you give them the ESN, they can find it in their system and make sure that it's pulled off the BIS system they have.

On another try, run the Email Setup program from the Storm and when it comes up, hit Menu and choose Create Username. If it allows you to create a userid for it, do so and then use that to manage your account. I don't think however this will work because if there's no active service through VZW for BIS, this utility should not function. It will however still give you some info as to if there's still an active tie to VZW's BIS system, which obviously, there is.

Good luck, you just ran into an ***** seller who didn't know how to properly pull the phone off their account prior to selling it.

Another option you have is seeing if you can have a conference call between you, the seller, and verizon. That way, she can verify that she did in fact have this phone on her account at one time (verizon will see this anyway) and she can make the request on your behalf to get it pulled off. If you find the right (smart) person at VZW support, this can easily be done. You just need someone who's not a dumbass robot reading a script.

Ok here is what she has said does this make sense
"if you know who i can call i will but i work for verizon wireless and i know that i cannot do anything through verizon. who would i contact about deregistering the BIS account?"

Would she then need to contact blackberry why wouldnt she be able to contact Verizon if she works there

Thats BS. Do you have a SIM card with a blackberry data plan already? When you pop it in and request the service books or set up email it should ask you if you want to switch accts. If not we can meet and you can use my SIM to do it see if that works.

BIS/BES functionality and provisioning is not tied to the SIM card. It's tied to the PIN and IMEI of the phone. Big difference my friend.

She doesn't know what she's talking about if she says she even works for Verizon. Have her get in touch with a Blackberry support supervisor and they will be able to do exactly what you need done. Tell her they must use the Blackberry Provisioning Tools in order to remove the BIS tie between the phone's PIN and their BIS system. RIM can also do this, but they wouldn't do it internally to them, they'd contact Verizon and walk/request them to do it. However, RIM support is not free. This lady is just clueless and another reason not to trust anything a Verizon employee tells you. Have her take this up with someone who knows what they are doing... which she doesn't.

"as i expected....because i work for verizon wireless and know quite a bit about their policies....the BIS cannot be deregistered. because it is not on an active verizon account (and like i stated in the auction it cannot ever be activated on a verizon account again) it cannot be deregistered or re released."

Maybe I'm the only one that sees this, but just dump it. Put it on Craigslist for what you bought it for, and you'll sell it in one day. Then pick up another one.

Incorrect. A PIN can be unprovisioned from a Verizon account to be used with another Verizon BIS account or even another carrier's BIS account. How do you think people that get your phone (after you send it in broken and they get it back as a refurb replacement) can get their BIS/BES to work on them? The PIN and IMEI doesn't change... just the account tie-in gets pulled off. There's been a bunch of people that had your exact problem and got it fixed by calling Verizon. The only difference for them is that they actually had Verizon accounts that they were going to put the new "eBay bought" Blackberry on, so Verizon was willing to help them in that case. This can be done... it's just a matter of finding someone who can JUST DO IT for you. This lady is stupid and most likely just a sales rep for Verizon... if even that. They cannot do what needs to be gone. It will take someone higher in the CSR department who have the necessary provisioning tools to get this done.

call vzw customer service (800) 922-0204 and immediately request a BB support specialist, you are dealing with an idi0t.
They can release the pin AND confirm the phone is not blacklisted as stolen.
Leave the seller some bad feedback.

She can go ahead and stop saying she works for verizon.. she isn't smart. She had to have created a BIS account at one time, so all she needs to do is go in and change that PIN on her BIS account, BB support can do this regardless of what she is telling you.

I've also PMd someone that may or may not be able to help you. We'll have to wait for their response to see if they can or cannot help. I would at least call and see where you can get with Verizon on the phone. Just remain calm and explain to them the situation nicely. If the rep you're speaking with is unwilling to help, politely ask for a supervisor and reexplain the situation nicely and tell them you just want a working phone and realize that this may not be normal practice for them, but it would help you greatly and would improve your viewpoint of them as a company if they could show some compassion for your situation in this case. After all, it is a handset they branded. If you don't get anywhere, just tell them thanks and hang up. Call back and hope to get a better person who can help. It'll be luck of the draw, so don't get discouraged if you need to call a few times. Good luck... just remember to stay calm and nice sounding on the phone... make it seem like you're between a rock and a hard place and they would be very helpfull if they could just help you. It would make everyone happy.

Most likely she bought the storm set up the account and realized it was too much for her to deal with, sold the phone and reactivated her razr. So the BIS is still set up and locked to the pin. As long as the BB isn't on the blacklist for being stolen they can release the pin in much less time than it took to grow this thread.
