To the op most of the software issues are fixed by 148. However hardware issues still exist, but it really just depends on the unit that you received.
As for my storm, this is the original that I have bought. It is in an otter case, but fell of my bike 4 times, got wet when I was caught in the rain.
And she is stilll working as new.
