Hey there...I was in the Bahamas with my Storm for Christmas and you can get coverage through your current Verizon plan. You wont get your emails pushed but text messages and calls will come through. Texts are $0.05 to receive and $0.50 to send. Calls are $1.99 a minute. You can get a global plan from Verizon for data but it would have to be a monthly plan adjustment. Hope this helps! I am from there originally and everyone was loving my Storm when I took vacation down there! Have fun!

Verizon has a very good coverage map. Head to their site and give it a look. Should answer all your questions. FWIW, watch out for roaming charges. Wasn't paying attention while I was in Puerto Rico recently. Got a nasty surprise on my next bill.

How exactly does this all work? I too will be traveling to Nassau next month and am just wondering what my options are in terms of making my phone work (amount of effort, supplies needed, price, etc.). Calling Verizon just spits out the regular roaming fee and "be sure to dial *228 to update your phone.

    Any help?

Don't know if this applies to your situation, but I was on a cruise last year and the ship avertised to have "normal" cell service with some high speed antenna. My phone said Verizon as it normally does, but I got stuck with a $300 bill accrued in that one week.......be careful.

I am not sure how Verizon works, but I was just in Bahamas last year and my brother in law and his gf changed to international plan for the week they were there, and they have ATT. They said it was 9.99 month extra. Then were going to cancel it when they got home.

You can call customer support. Change to the global roaming plan for the amount of time you will be out of the country. They will charge you for the time you will be away (not the entire month) and change back on your return. In my case the rep noted the dates and it was done automatically.

I did this while in Mexico with my 9530. Was told I would be charged whatever the roaming fees are for the country I was visiting. Although Mexico has CDMA roaming I assume since the 9530 is a global phone it would work in a country with GSM.

This was the way I was told it would happen by Verizon CS. We'll see when I get my next bill.

I have verizon. My daughters went to the Bahamas, no problem calling. However, There is a roaming charge of $1.25 per minute. Not a big phone user, I didn't realize the only warning you get is a little light in the corner of your cell phone.

I was in the Bahamas last summer with my Verizon phone. I spoke sparingly (3-4 calls under 5 minutes) and my bill was pretty reasonable. I don't remember the cost but I was relieved and didnt have to get a calling card and talk in the Atlantis lobby next to the casino. LOL

Yeah, never use your phone in range of a cruise ship because it's a minimum of $2.49/minute for all cruise lines. That does beat the $6-9/minute they charge on the ship phones.

Coverage is ok in tourist destinations. You're looking at $1.99/minute, $.25/text and if you need data you'll need to have VZW change your data plan to GlobalEmail which is $64.99/month which obviously could be changed back when you're back in the US.
