I have every email message deleted, and every sms text deleted. However, there is still a little envelope in the upper left where the email messages are displayed. How do i get rid of this because there is no mail whatsoever on my phone currently?

Happened to me all the time when I first got my curve. Check your actual messages folder....its likely a missed call, as Vegas said

If you saved a message that was marked unopened, it might be in your Saved folder.
