    When it is connected via USB, can you just unplug it willy nilly and do what you wanna do, or do you have to click the safely remove hardware icon and physically stop the device before you disconnect it. I have always just unplugged it, but I dont want to keep doing that if it is going to damage anything.

    Since there are no spinning disks to physically stop, and when in Mass Storage mode it is already optimized for quick removal, feel free to plug in and unplug your Storm at will (as long as you are not in the middle of a read/write operation such as an Application Update or Synchronization).

    However... Mac users need to eject the volumes of both internal & sd card icons (cmnd + e) before unplugging from their computer.
